If you're just draining, you should have had roughly....give or take 3qts come out. Refilling you put in 3.5-4qts so its overfilled, then take out the overflow plug on the transmission once it's at the required temperature level to do the check.
EDIT - I believe if you're dropping the transmission pan, then the refill amount is 10qts or slightly more, I don't remember.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Dropping the trans pan and changing filter only gets you about a quart above what you've drained. You will only get full 10 if you bust out the torque converter and transmission.

    This is incorrect.

Dropping the pan will only remove about an additional 1/2 to 1/3rd of a quart

I've done drain and fill twice and only about 2.75 quarts came out each time. I used a clear marked bucket for drain and put the exact amount back in

You should check the correct amount with the "overfill bolt method"
Some claim that the level from the factory was incorrect.

As tiap said, you should really follow the correct procedure for checking the fluid level via the overflow valve. So many of these trucks came with the wrong fluid level from the factory. Plus it only takes a few minutes to do the check with the overflow plug.

When I got my ‘23 I checked all fluids and the trans was 1.2 QTs low from the factory. It’s always good to recheck even after having someone do it.

2.7 QTs drain from the pan if doing a drain and fill. You add 3 QTs and do the temp check to drain the rest to spec at temperature.

Interesting, I notice that this document as well as the discussion is not mentioning the filter in general... Does this filter perhaps have a really long lifespan compared to older vehicles?

    ah nvm, found this video..

I remember having fun replacing the filter and gasket on my Ranger's transmission.. biggest PITA was carefully scraping off mating surfaces and then getting the filter gasket to stay in place before I discovered High-Tack Gasket Sealant
