Well,,the full meal deal on service items if you don't know the past, gear oils front to back, filters, ect. Check the accessory belts of course. If the water pump is not leaking, I would just leave that alone. Check your spark plugs, see how they look as far as condition and burn of the cylinder if you want.

Sometimes replacing those things you think need to be replaced,,will jump back and bite you 1/2 way thru your trip just because hands were put on it. The old montra of "if it's not broke,,don't touch" applies to a certain extent. A person still needs to be observant of possible items that may break or fail. The more miles you have on it, the more vigilant you need to be. Your just hitting the sweet spot in it's mileage life. I have 205 and I wouldn't blink twice about loading up and taking off.

If it is running fine,,just simple service and pre trip items and you should be good to go. I had to make a emergency trip of over 2400 miles once. All I had time for was a quick bag of clothes. Checked coolant, oil, tires, squirter fluid,,and I rolled out. I was right on top of a oil change before leaving. No problems whatsoever, The Tacoma took me there and brought me back without issue.

212k on a '99 PreRunner 2.7. Bought it with 180k or so, nothing major done by the previous owner (that I know of). Had a CEL in December, replaced the plugs and wires and took it on a 1500 mile trip and it was perfect.

Gonna be a 3500 mile trip or so. Going through Canada. Thats my main concern is not being stranded. Vehicle fixes on the ALCAN is crazy expensive.

Thanks for the info. I fall victim frequently to Murphy's Law, what can go wrong will go wrong so I'm just trying to cover my bases.

Just hit 191K this morning. If everything goes as planned, she should eclipse 200K around the end of the year. :)

No problem,,Murphy struck again on your quote,,lmao.

Have read that there used to be sections/miles of intermitten abandoned vehicles on the ALCAN,,back in the day. Red rust highway memorabilia.

There is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma v6 xcab manual 4x4 up for sale with 201,000 miles. The truck has a great appearance but I'm nervous purchasing a truck thats going to be my main driver with that many miles. I don't want to buy it then replace all of the parts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

soon want dual lockers Picture was my 85 dual arb great
I would reserve like $400 for some new parts. There is no reason this cannot be a great truck but since you want it to run, lets talk about frame rust and parts replacement. Make certain the frame is ok. Once past that part, I would replace both radiator hoses, thermostat with a good flush or two. maybe the radiator since it is $115, then cam sensor, crank sensor, throttle position sensor. take out and clean air idle control valve and egr valve. I would clean carefully the air mass sensor, and when everything is runngin good, take out the fuses once at a time, check amperage to be whant is specified, and clean the contacts with a dremel wire brush. This gives you a fighting chance at no electric problems. If you have time, drop the oil pan, and clean it to remove all old oil and sludgeand start fresh. O yes, change the gas filter and if willing empty and clean the fuel tank. I do all the above on vehicles with more than 100 k. Agreed the timing belt/chain should be replaced for better timing. good luck.
