No. Bottom end looked fine. I pulled the motor to replace the timing chain and water pump, figured I had it pulled might as well rebuild it. It is my dd/farm truck, but I have other vehicles so I wasn't in any hurry to finish it. It does run much better now than it did. I am at least the second owner of this truck, the valves were never checked until I did it the first time at 150k miles. Cylinder head was cracked between 2 and 3 I think on the exhaust side (machine shop tested). Again, since the cylinder head was cracked I tore the block down and had the deck checked, crankshaft polished and replaced the pistons/rings/wrist pins and all the bearings (twice... long story with oil pump shattering in the first start up).

Best thing I installed while doing the rebuild was a better oil pressure and temp gauge..

Sitting at 241k over here. Doesn't leak any fluids and still gets 20mpg on the highway. Only minor maintenance and I need to replace my cat...

I'm new here. Just stumbled onto the site. I'm on my 4th Toyota 2wd('79-285k,'81-297k,'88-308k,'98)My '98 now has 374,xxx still runs great. Original everything except new clutch pack about 25,000 miles ago. It is going to need the intermediate steering shaft replaced soon, getting pretty loose!

1/8" roll pin from Home Depot works too if you don't have access to a welder.

Good to hear these testimonials about 200,000 miles. Solid proof the Tacomas are still running strong. I plan to keep mine forever and hope I get to 200,000 miles with no major issues like these proud owners.
