Thank you for letting me know. I drove 300 miles off 12.5 gallons. I was at the E line when I filled up. I wasn’t on the letter E And my gas light never came on. I just wasn’t sure being it was new to me I didn’t won’t to run out of gas. Either way I know I get 24mpg just divide 300 by 12.5.

I have another question for you guys that can answer this. I just got done replacing my 4 prong harness for the TPS sensor. I cut the old one off and spliced them and tied it all together. I then soldered the wires and heat shrinked with color matching the wires. The problem I was having was if you wiggled the harness the truck would want to die. I get done and wiggle harness it’s fine now no big deal. I barely touch the TPS sensor and it’s going all out of wack. The previous owner said he changed it out I took his word. I am now thinking that the throttle position sensor is bad. What do y’all think?

I average about 300 miles per tank too and around 25 mpg so your 24 sounds right!

If I used all 15 gallons it would put me at 360 a tank and 24mpg.

I think I will just change the TPS sensor out a guy on eBay has a Toyota oem one for $15 and free shipping. This should fix my problem I’m having. The work I just did was way harder than taking out 2 screws!

The 2rz and 3rz are very similar engines. The 3rz is basically a stroked 2rz. The valve train is more or less the same.

Just because royal purple is pricey doesn't make it the best. I feel as though it's ended up below average on the tests I've seen. In reality though I don't think most of it makes much of a difference other than the money that comes out of your pocket.

Yeah I could get synthetic oil off Amazon for $16 and a Toyota filter for $5 so the oil change wouldn't be but $21. This is compared to $44 for royal purple oil and $18 for the filter. I just don't want to skimp on maintenance with the truck I want it to last along time.

If you have time look up projectfarm on YouTube he has some good videos comparing different oils.

    Okay good deal.
Yes I will give him a look. I have another question below could you help me with?

I replaced my TPS wiring harness last night I spliced the wires and soldered them in and heat shrunk the wires with the correct colors for future reference looks really good. I thought this would stop my tps symptoms I wiggle the harness and everything is fine. I touch the TPS and it wants to die down once again. I contacted the guy who sold me it and he said he has replaced it times before and issue returns. I was thinking that if they put on a off brand TPS sensor for one would not be quality of OEM. Secondly I'm not sure if he set the correct voltage before installing. The last thing is the throttle body was all gummed up I cleaned it out and I'm more than certain if they didn't clean it before install of the new sensor this would cause the problem over and over again. What do you think?

Sorry, I've no experience with the TPS other than cleaning it.

Yea I actually watched the videos. I will be buying the Amazon full synthetic for $16 for 5 quarts. They did a test with it and Mobil one along with valvoline and it was neck and neck with the Mobil 1 very impressive for the price.

I haven't dealt with a TPS on the Tacoma, but it can be finicky to set from my experience. Check your grounds and give them a clean. Definitely clean the throttle body and try again.

Yea I have cleaned the throttle body once it was pretty gummed up. I also replaced the harness going to the TPS sensor itself it's fine there now there was a short in the wires so it was throwing the ECU off. The TPS sensor is there anyway to clean it and where its seating to make sure that not effecting it? I know with these TPS sensors you have to set the voltage so you cant just screw it in and expect it to work.

I will try this first and possibly check to see if whomever installed it even set the sensor in the right position. I had to add some R134 yesterday to the low side it was at around 15 psi so it was only semi cold at idle. Once I was on the interstate there was no cold air at all. I slowly added Freon to the low side and gauged it to not overfill. These trucks top out at 35 PSI and that's where I charged it too. The TACO is blowing really nice cold air now.

That’s awesome man! That Tacoma should see many many more miles to come. Idk why but on the 1997 Tacoma 2.4l doesn’t have rpm gauges and I have always wondered why?

I dunno. Our old 82 Volvo wagon had a clock there. I found a tach at the junkyard and plugged it in, it worked.

Turns out our old method of shifting "when the engine sounds like it's about to jump out of the hood" was only like 2500 rpm. It redlined at 5500 or 6000. That car got a whole lot quicker that day.

Fun fact:. I think my taco is still on its original clutch. Lots of highway miles.
