Just flipped today. Normal maintenance since I bought it with 115k. Frame replaced by Toyota in 2017, other than that, notable repairs have been: leaf springs, front shocks (rancho quick lift) timing belt/h20 pump, front calipers, hanger bearing, both rear axle seals, upper/lower ball joints and soon to be cat back exhaust. We all know 200k ain’t chit on our trucks but it’s a fun milestone.9845CA58-2772-4D0C-A690-43A411C18AB7.jpg DA0BDF60-90B5-45BF-8142-FF8DD216E7C7.jpg

Nice clean truck. I expect you to triple that mileage these tricks just keep on going as long as routine maintenance is done. They say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right?

I haven't had to replace mine yet but the nuts are rusty some. I'm not sure if the previous owner has changed them or not. I would imagine it to be fairly easy to remove them and replace with maybe the security lug nuts made by gorilla with a special socket the way its keyed. If you ever have a problem taking lug nuts off in my experience from a guy at firestone installing them WAY WAY to tight with a damn air gun! I had to go a size smaller and beat the socket on and use a breaker bar to remove and replace with speciality lugs from gorilla on my f150! The guy rounded the lug nuts off so that was my only way to take them off. The guy was a COMPLETE IDIOT.

Idk if this was the culprit or not but I recently used sea foam to clean up the throttle body and rain it thru the vacuum line and some in the tank. I drove and filled back up once again after it was used in the truck. I used 9 gallons and went 255 miles and still had a quarter of a tank on fill up. I just divided 255 miles by 9 and it's 28.33 mpg. I was previously getting around 25-26mpg. I still haven't changed my oil or any other fluids yet so I'm kinda curious why the big jump? I drive 70 mph on the interstate everyday so no change in driving?

my 97 was equipped with the black nuts that show no corrosion even with 21 years exposed to road chemicals that I washed off frequently
i have my tires rotated at DT last time and had a real hard time getting one off the rear by hand, it was probably way overtightened by their impact tool

Yea idk why they think to use the impact of lug nuts and overtighten them. The guy at firestone completely rounded mine off so he either tightened too much or he use a size up than was needed is more than likely and stripped it away.

I've got 234k on mine. The motor runs like a top, but every single oil leak that can happen has happened...and been fixed. Just get ready for lots of maintenance if you want to keep it going.

I plan on changing my rear diff with royal purple 75w90 and royal purple atf fluid along with royal purple high mileage engine oil 5w20. I already did a complete coolant flush and fill. Yea I have a slight leak on passenger side back of my valve cover it doesn’t hurt anything just leaks slightly. I plan on replacing the gasket for $30 and changing my plugs out. That will be probably all else I do with the truck maintenance wise that will be all that will need to be done. I have 340,100 miles on mine!

246,000 on an 03 prerunner 3.4l TRD. Power steering randomly went out at around 36,000, shortly after I bought it.....warranty covered it. Valve cover gasket replaced somewhere in the low 200,000's (started leaking after trying out synthetic...back to oem), radiator cracked recently. Other than that just regular maintenance, shocks, brake pads, one set of rotors. Never left me stranded and always does what I ask it to. I work this truck hard but i don't drive it hard. Probably carries a 1500+ lb static payload and then whatever material or trailer I need for a job. I don't think you could get more reliability and dependability out of a truck. I'm shooting for 500,000.20191006_132403.jpg

That’s awesome man! Yea I just had to get new tires today they were dry rotting and one had a knot in it ready to go at anytime. I replaced them for under $200 for everything. I did my flush a month or 2 ago and installed a tee with new coolant. I am going to be changing my valve cover gasket slight leak on passenger side back. I am also going to go ahead and change the plugs and a k&n drop in filter that’s high flow. I am also changing my oil and filter to royal purple and see how much better it does on a synthetic. Then in a month or so if I like it I will change my diff and atf fluids to royal purple also. I have 340k miles and I drive it to work and back 85 miles round trip. I plan on just doing maintenance and I should be well over 500k miles. These motors are pretty much bullet proof if you do your regular maintenance.

What's this royal purple stuff everyone is talking about?

It’s the purple oil and it’s kinda expensive around cost of amsoil probably a little cheaper. Royal purple has a good reputation so I’m willing to try it out. I have heard allot of people with good results and better mpg and quieting engine down and running smoother than conventional oil.

Yea my daughter calls mine Timmy lol. It’s not the prettiest thing but saves me $160 a month on fuel and another $300 with no truck note so it was worth the $500 I paid for the truck. I can now save $300 a month to go towards over things and projects so I’m pretty happy.

Awesome! Yea just keep up with maintenance and you should be okay. I bought this truck for $500 with title in hand only a few months ago. I could tell the owner didn't take proper care of the truck. The valve cover gasket had a oil leak on the passenger rear side and the ac/heat blower motor bearing we're shot making a horribly loud noise. The tires we're ok tread but sign of dry rot. The air filter was dirty and the oil I could tell wasn't changed along with the oil filter. The spark plugs needing changing had slight oil on plugs from valve cover leak and spark plug seal leaking by. The PCV valve I could tell was original and the grommet was hard as a rock. The coolant was nasty and needed to be flushed and new coolant added. The spark plug wires needed to be replaced I could tell they had many miles on them.

I did a really good tune-up this weekend. I have all new tires mounted and balanced along with full synthetic oil Amazon 5w30 and a stock Toyota oil filter. I replaced the air filter with a spectra high flow air filter and replaced the ac/heat blower motor now its really quiet. I replaced the spark plug wires I went with NGK and stock Denso plugs gapped at .032 and anti seize on threads. The coolant installed a tee and flushed radiator and put all new coolant in and mixed to 50/50. I replaced the PCV and grommet on top of the valve cover and removed the valve cover and installed a new gasket along with the spark plug tube seals. I took off the half moons on front of valve cover cleaned up and applied new gasket maker and set back into place. This took me pretty much the weekend to get this all done but I can def. tell the truck appreciates me changing everything out. I plan on changing the ATF and diff oil sometimes but in no hurry haven't had any problems. I just assume if I have to do all of this maintenance then more than likely the ATF and diff wasn't serviced. I have a new TPS sensor on the way and will properly adjust it once I get it this week. I know I need a new one because the guy when I bought it said that's why it sometimes dies at idle when sitting in traffic. I confirmed this with the engine code and also if I barely touch the TPS the truck dies. I assume they didn't adjust it right and it's not reading correctly. Once I take care of these last few things it is just keeping an eye on everything.
