That’s awesome man! Yea I just had to get new tires today they were dry rotting and one had a knot in it ready to go at anytime. I replaced them for under $200 for everything. I did my flush a month or 2 ago and installed a tee with new coolant. I am going to be changing my valve cover gasket slight leak on passenger side back. I am also going to go ahead and change the plugs and a k&n drop in filter that’s high flow. I am also changing my oil and filter to royal purple and see how much better it does on a synthetic. Then in a month or so if I like it I will change my diff and atf fluids to royal purple also. I have 340k miles and I drive it to work and back 85 miles round trip. I plan on just doing maintenance and I should be well over 500k miles. These motors are pretty much bullet proof if you do your regular maintenance.

It’s the purple oil and it’s kinda expensive around cost of amsoil probably a little cheaper. Royal purple has a good reputation so I’m willing to try it out. I have heard allot of people with good results and better mpg and quieting engine down and running smoother than conventional oil.

Yea my daughter calls mine Timmy lol. It’s not the prettiest thing but saves me $160 a month on fuel and another $300 with no truck note so it was worth the $500 I paid for the truck. I can now save $300 a month to go towards over things and projects so I’m pretty happy.

Awesome! Yea just keep up with maintenance and you should be okay. I bought this truck for $500 with title in hand only a few months ago. I could tell the owner didn't take proper care of the truck. The valve cover gasket had a oil leak on the passenger rear side and the ac/heat blower motor bearing we're shot making a horribly loud noise. The tires we're ok tread but sign of dry rot. The air filter was dirty and the oil I could tell wasn't changed along with the oil filter. The spark plugs needing changing had slight oil on plugs from valve cover leak and spark plug seal leaking by. The PCV valve I could tell was original and the grommet was hard as a rock. The coolant was nasty and needed to be flushed and new coolant added. The spark plug wires needed to be replaced I could tell they had many miles on them.

I did a really good tune-up this weekend. I have all new tires mounted and balanced along with full synthetic oil Amazon 5w30 and a stock Toyota oil filter. I replaced the air filter with a spectra high flow air filter and replaced the ac/heat blower motor now its really quiet. I replaced the spark plug wires I went with NGK and stock Denso plugs gapped at .032 and anti seize on threads. The coolant installed a tee and flushed radiator and put all new coolant in and mixed to 50/50. I replaced the PCV and grommet on top of the valve cover and removed the valve cover and installed a new gasket along with the spark plug tube seals. I took off the half moons on front of valve cover cleaned up and applied new gasket maker and set back into place. This took me pretty much the weekend to get this all done but I can def. tell the truck appreciates me changing everything out. I plan on changing the ATF and diff oil sometimes but in no hurry haven't had any problems. I just assume if I have to do all of this maintenance then more than likely the ATF and diff wasn't serviced. I have a new TPS sensor on the way and will properly adjust it once I get it this week. I know I need a new one because the guy when I bought it said that's why it sometimes dies at idle when sitting in traffic. I confirmed this with the engine code and also if I barely touch the TPS the truck dies. I assume they didn't adjust it right and it's not reading correctly. Once I take care of these last few things it is just keeping an eye on everything.

Actually it was a T-shirt prize "but ran out" but then the contest event coordinators switched to hats as an award, received nothing. A sticker is better than nothing anyhow this promo was a while ago :cobwebs:

That sucks then I would want something then. Yea I was gonna use royal purple for engine oil but decided on Amazon basics full synthetic 5w30 and instantly made the engine quieter. I will use royal purple in my diff maybe it’s just too overpriced once I looked into it. I will def get synthetics to go in the diff And tranny .

I did all of this as well at about 195k. I think it helped a lot. I haven't moved to synthetic though as I think its probably better just to stay with conventional. Have you done your fuel filter or anything else yet?

285k, just did valve cover seals, spark plugs at 255k. Runs perfect. Has just as much power as it did new. never leaks a drop of anything. Ot does need ball joints and springs & shocks. What will fit OE TrD? Also thinking of maybe selling her, don't want to, just cant push and hold clutch anymore [back injury] . I figure that I will get honest opinions\maybe a buyer or two and value.
    Peace and Love

have you explored any potential custom mods for the clutch?
i recall my late uncle that had polio coming to visit during the summers in the 70s & 80s in his ford van that had custom stuff to operate gas and brake, don't recall if he had MT in that van or not.

I just bought my first Tacoma ever, a 2003 4WD TRD with 246k miles. It runs pretty well, but the timing belt has *never* been replaced, so I'm doing that pronto before driving it. The previous owner was very open about all known issues, which also include the check engine light being out, the oxygen sensor not working and routine front brake work needs to be done in the next six months. BUT, what a great truck anyways! I got it for a good price ($3500) so I don't mind having the work done. It will not be my daily driver, but it will be my garden/mulch/mountain bike truck, and maybe some camping and hiking.

I'm sure I'll have questions, as I've never had a truck, 4X4 or Toyota before.
