Jay i have a 96 tacoma 2.7 5 speed with 244000 on it the main item i changed was the gear ratio from stock to 4:88s this engine loves that ratio headers and computer chip really helped performance and milage is still around 19 to 20mpg on the freeway varies off road depending on how i drive it. good luck finding a tacoma i would suggest the 4 cyl no timing belt to deal with

ALLRIGHT! WOW! More miles than I have! I'm getting a new Drive Shaft Today. Over 250,000 miles on it and it's starting to make noise.

    So, fun story.

I bought my 97 last September with around 295k on it. I've been driving it quite a bit recently, and I was pretty excited about hitting 300k. July 23rd, I came home from work with 299,997 on the clock. I figured Id hit it the next morning.

Fast forward to that night, trying to stand up from the couch, I stood up wrong and tore the meniscus in my right knee. Girlfriend had to take me to the ER, and my Subaru was too low to get into. She had never driven my Taco before, but she ended up being the one to hit 300,000 in it. She took a pretty shitty picture haha. Fast forward a few weeks and one knee surgery later, I won't be driving for a while. But hey, it made it!

2004 Tacoma pre runner 6 cylinder here with 216,568 miles and going. The old saying that Toyota last forever is true if you plan to replace parts. It wasn’t until 198,000 that the dealership noticed low compression in the engine. The truck received top engine rebuild, new water pump and thermostat. A week later the radiator blew and I got that replaced. Last week I replaced shocks, struts, coils and AC blower fan. I also recently replaced the driver side door handle. I would Have the truck checked by a mechanic and if all is good and you like
It, buy it. If the engines fails you can get it fixed, etc. the way I see it, a new truck is so much more than fixing the old one. Although my paint is blistered from living in the desert, the truck is great. Maint is low, 30,000 for spark plugs and rear differential service and 5,000 for oil changes. Great investment and you’ll find lots of support here.

Just bought a 2004 and approaching 266,000. I just cleaned the MAF and throttle body (definitely needed it), changed spark plugs and wires. It’s a smooth and great ride that I hope to have for a while!

Just bought a 2000 4x4 extended cab. 209,000 miles on it. Two weeks later Hooked a single axle camper to it and drove to Sioux city, Iowa from ft worth tx. Swung thru Missouri on the way back to see my brother. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2200 miles. No issues. 2.7l, manual. I was a little concerned cuz I knew nothing about the truck. I was amazed.

Officially hit 215k on the dash last night. But it's probably closer to 225k since it has had bigger than stock tires most it's life. 20200831_191536.jpg

2001 with 245k miles. just a new clutch last year, that's it! if you buy a high mileage truck though, just keep in mind that you may have to fix a few things here and there. stuff wears out, no matter what truck it is.
