    Currently in the process of trying to sell my dad's first gen and came across this thread while lurking the first gen forums. It's only ever needed a starter, an exhaust manifold, and routine maintenance. Never left us stranded in 16 years of daily driven ownership, I can't say enough about these trucks.

    Many Lexus interior parts, LED dash lights, a flatbed Is coming soon.
    I don’t buy them UNTIL they have 200+K miles on them. Typically I will put another 200K on them. I average about 30K a year in my contracting business

    Only about 26,000 miles are mine. Blackstone oil analysis show no abnormal engine wear. Replaced the suspension, fuel filter, PCV valve, all the fluids, and a few other things. Runs great and I hope to put at least another 280,000 miles on her!

    Got the Truck at 90k and just got 210k this week. Took a trip about 3000 miles round trip in March. Didn’t miss a beat. Love this little taco

    Original owner of my '98. I've replaced the U-joints, primary and secondary clutch cylinders, top valve cover gasket, new A/C, and now new lights.

    i bought a 02 tacoma earlier in 2020 and it wasn't running right from day one. figured id risk it since the frame had been done under the recall in 09 and the body looked well taken care of. anyways, fired the parts cannon at it with maintenance items even up to injectors. turns out it was just fucking worn out/had bad valves. 430xxx kms. soooooo just put a 165xxx km engine in. like brand new.

    yay

    Yes, P0420.

    I plan on putting in a completely new exhaust system with headers sometime in the next few months.

    Actually no -- but I'm also thrown off because I see them swapped in most people's trucks. I bought the truck that way, maybe someone else swapped them? The truck is extremely unmodded/unmolested (it literally came with original window sticker/manual/dealership swag) but who knows.

    @gsubioguy is yours swapped?

    Nice! Toyota might have moved them. I had a '99 and the ECT was over by the dimmer switch, middle/lower dash to the left of the wheel & hazard was just right of guages

    Oh yeah, I've seen those too! I've currently got a blank at the ECT spot you're referencing.

    It's just to the right of the ECT. I think some later year first-gens had the airbag doohickey there but mine doesn't have that being it's a '97.

    Yup. I went back and looked at a picture of mine & the on/off for thr passenger airbag is in the center dash trip just to thr right. I'd forgotten about that.

    240k on mine and still going strong. Changed the oil the other day, ordered a valve cover gasket kit so I'll change those and the plugs and wires when the kit gets here, I'll need to do all 4 tie rods and steering rack bushings after the valve cover gaskets and after that I'll give painting a try and paint the hood and possibly roof if the hood comes out ok.
