Nice truck man. Is it an automatic or manual? Merely curious.

Oh, it is a wonderful 5-speed manual with the 3.4L V6.
I would have like a bit better mileage but its a great engine.

Quirks like cloudy old plastic headlamp lens, some very small dents, etc.
    Nothing too overwhelming, but...
I sure do miss the older Toyotas where you could actually see where the plug wires came from and where they went to.
A time when a simple set of automotive wrenches and a cheap 'Equus' brand timing light kit was all you needed. :)

Hello folks. This is my first post, but I've been lurking for years figuring out how to keep my '99 taco on the road. I've had it for the last 15 years and when I saw the 200k thread, had to at least say something about the last ~150k I put on it myself... I've got a 2wd xtra cab with the little 2.4L engine, but she'll carry two vintage motorcycles while pulling a trailer with one more on it over the grapevine (I5), or did when I first got her about 2009. it might take her a full minute to get up to highway speed if there's a little incline, but she's got legs once going!
I'm back on here again cause the clutch is starting to slip and gotta do all the research I can before I put her up on jack stands and attempt to drop the tranny. watching videos on youtube and already miss having to drop the transmission in my pop's old '65 chevy 1/2 tons. a whole lot less keeping that thing in the truck back then!

anyhow, I've got over 220k on her now and save for blowing a spark plug that I had to install a helicoil to repair, she's been pretty maintenance free!

I hit 200k at the beginning of June! Some of you may remember though that I never got lucky with the frame recall and repaired the frame myself. Well, it started to rust through again and I didn’t feel that it was worth the money to repair a second time. Traded my 1st gen for $500 on a ‘22 SR. Was surprised to get that much!

I've got 308,000 miles on my 97. The original radiator crapped out causing the motor to overheat so now it's got a new head gasket and of course new radiator. Plus new master and slave clutch cylinders, several new sensors, interior door handles oh and lower ball joints crapped out causing the front wheel to fall off. if you have that problem get replacements with grease nipples. But that's about it. Runs great, had it about 12 yrs. Love it! But I wanted to ask about the timing bet. I read it doesn't have one but instead a timing CHAIN. How long does the chain last?

2001 Pre Runner with 265k. I bought it new and it still has the original starter and alternator. I've replaced the valve cover gaskets, lower ball joints, driver side door handle and the vent window latches. I replaced the water pump with the last new timing belt just because it was convenient. Last year I replaced downstream O2 sensor. After a few hundred miles it started surging under slow acceleration. It turned out to be the new O2 sensor. It doesn't like anything but Denso O2 sensors. Over the past month the transmission has started acting a little funny when cold. It seems to have a small inconsistent vibration and it shifts rough occasionally. I've never touched the fluid or anything so I just drained the old fluid (about 3 quarts which was pitch black and smelled like an old Farmall tractor) and added some new stuff. It seemed to help a little. Next on the list are new UCAs, UBJs, and strut/coil assemblies.

Bought a 2012 Yaris used in December 2012, put about 250,000 miles on it and traded it in w/ my 98 for my current truck.
Worst vehicle decision ever, trading in my Yaris.

That is a lot of miles on Toyotas and I don't plan on trading in my current truck, ever. I like Toyotas. Use them for commuting to work,
    hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, etc.

I'm on my 3rd 200k Toyota now - had a 98 T100 that made it to ~205k around ten years ago, sold it when I moved and had 50 mile each way parkway commute. Drove an impreza for a couple years until I moved within a mile of the job and went back to a truck. My '99 xcab gold Taco was around 210k when a tree fell on it while I was driving home a couple years back. Weirdest thing that ever happened to me... it was a clear, calm night and out of nowhere a ~6" diameter maple landed on the hood at 40 MPH, rolled right over the roof and off the back. Drove the truck home but the insurance company totaled it for all the body damage. Bought my '02 double cab right after that, was at 208k 3 years ago, about to hit 240.
