I only have 98k on my 2002 that I bought new so I doubt I will ever get to 200k but she has been perfect so far. Normal maintenance plus brakes and tires.
Some people here have 300k and 400k.
If the Tacoma is nice and clean and not butchered up then you should be OK.

Good point! I was thinking that also!

I am finding lots of nice affordable trucks in the 90k to 120k mile range. A few were easy to tell that they were beat hard, while a couple were pretty nice ( but more $$$$).

Is $8500 a fair price for a clean 2001 4X4 ext cab w/ 108000 miles? I still have lots of reading to do before making a decision.

Thanks for the replies, keep em' coming!
    Jay

Thts a good deal. thts crazy tht he would sell tht truck for tht much unless theres been something wrong or something. He could be asking for more than that if he wanted to since tacomas hold their value

I have a 2006 TRD Doublecab SR5 6 speed manual with 205k miles on it.

With 200k miles the truck is either going to be clean and well maintained or be obviously not well maintained. Of course with this many miles, anything can happen.

You're looking for a good used or remanufactured transmission, I think. I had similar problems around 150K of very hard miles.

I have seen over 400k+ miles on the 3.0l and 3.4l v6s, but the guys who owned them changed the oil and oil filter every 5000 miles or less with synthetic oil. As long as the person did there regular maintenance you should be fine. BTW my truck has 271,293 miles and it keeps climbing strong.

    Yes.
    2001 Sienna - 365,000 miles.
    2009 Corolla - 183,000 miles.
    1993 Celica - 200,000 miles.

    & a friend's (I believe) 1997 Tacoma just hit 400,000 miles today.

The only one I had issues with, the 2009 Corolla.

Reading all of these posts, really makes me think I got rid of my 98' way too soon. I sold it 3 years ago with 95,000 miles thinking I'd better get rid of it while I can get some money out of it. Purchased a used 05' DC w/35k miles (extremely happy with it, but my 98 was paid for). In the 10 years I owned it, all I did was change the oil and put gas in it, the 2 "major" repairs I had were front brake pads ($90 installed) and timing belt ($200 installed).. Not too bad :) I attached a picture of my old truck (never should have sold it)

Sorry for thread-jacking. I was gushing about my old truck :) I would say $8,500 with 108k is a great price. I sold my 98 in 07 with 95k miles for $12,900 (and they got a great deal)

I just sold my 2003 Extended Cab TRD OR to a friend. I bought it new and put 230,000 miles on it...never had a problem. Several sets of brake pads, 1 set of front rotors, lots of tires, 2 timing belts...but that is it!! I just bout a 2007 DC TRD Sport Long Bed to replace it. Ask me again in 10 years! :)

dang your making me feel good that im only at 120k!!!

2nd owner...I've been in an accident with it, fixed the body damage, and the only problem I've run into is needing to replace the fuel filter...

on a 2nd note how do I know when to check/replace the timing belt?
