No matter the manufacturer they all suck once they have your money.

My current truck is 2010 Tundra Crewmax, secondary air intake/pump is broke cost $2500/$3000, I purchased new and at this time less then 60K miles. This problem started last year, my mechanic said there is a TSB out, called Toyota it was extended for 10 years or 150,000 and I missed it by 8 months, they claimed they sent me the TSB via mail and I know I never got it. I pleaded with them as a loyal Toyota owner of various tacomas since 1995, i even appealed their decision and they refused. I even asked if they would do the work for 50% of the price and would pay for it, nope Toyota corporate wasn't like they where years ago, pleasure to work with. Yes I'm bitter, and o question myself as to why give them my money on a new tacoma I have on order, but then I look at the other manufacturers out there, and they are far worst

But how would you ever know when to change lanes without the machines?! How did people listen to Cardi B?! All hail the machines!

Amen to that! Too bad a lot of this 'safety' shit is starting to be mandated..

Sorry to hear about the bill OP. There are plenty of guys on here who are good with Techstream and may be able to tell you how to permanently disable that stuff. For what its worth, did you take it to a 2nd dealer to get their quote?

    Is it this part?
I had a windshield replaced recently and Safelite broke a wire on the sensor. They replaced it with this OEM part the next day. Truck was drivable but had the collision lights lit up on the dash.

I could see the dealer charging a fortune to replace this $120 part. It took Safelite 15 minutes at most to replace the sensor and calibrate. It mounts in front of the rear view mirror.

    Thanks for all your response.
Before the truck was towing to dealership, I let a local repair shop to do a diagnosis. They tried and told me the technology is too new, they couldn't even establish communication with car computer.
After dealership gave me the repair cost of "camera", I did call one guy who've been working on many different models for many years. He said he couldn't do it since it involve some sort of software update on the camera.
I probably will head to dealer today, see what the trade in option are. They put average $3000 market price adjustment on top of MSRP. I don't consider myself a good price negotiator. I know the market is crazy now. Any idea on price point? My current model is SR5, looking to TRD, Off road, 4X4. I need to tow a small RV trailer (RPOD)

At the very least take it to a different dealer for a 2nd opinion.

I just use my naturally occurring eyeballs to see what is in front of & around me. But then again, maybe you don't have good eyesight or are just too busy playing on your cell phone, so you do need a camera to alarm when you are about to rear-end someone or change lanes into someone.

Which part is it exactly? The hidden TSS sensor behind the grill? Or the sensors behind the windshield. If it's the one behind the grill, see if you can find one at a junk yard or salvaged Tacoma. (It's easy to replace but sometimes it gets finicky if it's not properly calibrated after replacement) If it's the one behind the windshield, take it to a local automotive glass shop and see if they can take it off and replace it for you.

Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
From reading the above posts... Safelite fixed a connection to the camera not the camera itself.

OP, I'd be disabling the safety sense and ignoring a dash light until a junk yard replacement could be found.

I think Toyota on occasion has intentionally disabled the forward camera because a client declined to agree to something or another based on having a lift or the wrong grille and the mm radar not being ‘calibrated’. I believe this is a one way trip, if they disable it, it’s permanent. I wonder if that process would provide the ‘bypass’ under consideration.

Not all of us are lucky enough to be perfect and never make a mistake or have a distracted second or two regardless of how careful we are, wearing our glasses, and keeping our cell phones put away. For those people I can see how having a second set of electronic eyes would be redundant, or even an annoying affront to their manhood. The rest of us mere mortals don't mind having a second set of electronic eyes having our backs as a backup to our naturally occurring eyeballs just in case, as humans tend to do from time to time, we miss something.

Shortly after purchasing my 2018 truck I was distracted with a work issue in heavy Georgetown DC traffic and the safety stuff saved me from what would've easily been >$5k rear-ending a subcompact.

I have no idea if the tech is still working in my truck. How would someone go about testing? Perhaps put a large cardboard box in the street and head towards it at 20 mph?

To be specific, the part number shown on estimates is: 8646C-04020, part description: Forward Recognition Camera. Price $1371.70.

Will see if disabling it will be the option.

Just found it on this dealer's website for a discount. It's still pretty expensive, so see if you can salvage one if you decide to replace it. Looks to be behind the windshield so it'll likely be a bit hard to DIY it.

I suppose you could do that, or you could line up your pesky neighbor or annoying co-worker and do the same test. Then whether it works or not it's a win-win either way :anonymous:

I'd buy it and try to plug it in myself.

I'm not sure if you have to take the windshield off to replace it. Looks to be behind the black plastic cover at the top of the windshield.
