2023 V6 4wd. Was going to tow a 4700 lb car across country with a UHaul tow dolly. Well in weight limit. Night before UHaul switched me to a flatbed and assured me I was still in the weight limit. I did the tow and we all survived, but I realized that I was more than 2000 lbs over. What kind of damage might be done to the vehicle and do you think I should take any action against UHaul? They might have ruined my brand new truck and put my life at risk. A sudden stopping event would likely not have succeeded!

Operator error for blindly assuming the minimum wage guy behind the counter knew what he was doing. You’re lucky nobody died. How did you not notice the braking was “different?”

If you're that worried, take it to Toyota and have them check it out and hope that if anything is wrong, nothing is in the contract relieving Uhaul of responsibility. Don't know if you can do anything about "might have put my life at risk"

Did you read the owner's manual on your maximum towing capacity? Ultimately you're responsible for not knowing the towing max of your vehicle not Uhaul.

Gee, thanks for the public shaming. I didn’t know the weight of the flatbed when UHaul assured me it was within limit. Please don’t bother posting if you aren’t going to be helpful.

Huh. Uhaul states their tow dolly has a capacity of 3900 lbs. so I understand why they’d move you to a bigger trailer.

You came here asking for opinions. We gave them. If you don't like the answers don't post. No one was nasty about the replies.

This actually was all on you, as you agreed to rent the trailer.

Any rate, depending on how fast you drove and what gear you ran, and with you, you were using ECT or not I doubt you much of an issue.
it really depends on how you were driving, how you drove up and down hills, how you did break when you did come to a stop.

You aren’t going to be able to sue U-Haul for putting your life at risk and damaging your truck and causing your grief. That’s all on you brother
