    I would also rather have 3 1st gens than 1 3rd gen.

I had a 2nd gen for about 2 years, traded it for my 03 double cab

Got mine at H&H Home and Truck Accessory Center the brand is UWS.
I think it is a UWS TBS-63-A-LP-BLK not sure.
If you get one tell them not to put their Logo on it, they drill 4 holes and pop rivet it to the toolbox.

Just do a Google search for UWS truck tool boxes and you should find one, click the link below and you can see a few different ones on Tacomas.

Did you ever end up getting an UltraGauge? I'm trying to decide which one to buy; the $70 one or $80 one.

I'm not sure, I have not really researched them that much. It will most likely depend on how you will be using them. According to their site the MX model is geared toward advanced users.
EM Plus does not contain the added features found in the UltraGauge MX, and the MX does not contain the added features found in the EM version.
Just look at the specs for each and see what you need the most.
From what I have read I would most likely go with the EM version for my truck.

The solenoid is located on your winch circled in red in the picture below.

    upload_2017-1-18_20-42-8.jpg
Your remote cable plugs into the solenoid female plug (circled in red below).

You will need to buy the female plug to install in your cab. (Just the plug not the entire solenoid) and a new remote cable. Call 4wheelparts they got me the remote cable and the female plug shipped to me for less than $20

    upload_2017-1-18_20-43-30.jpgupload_2017-1-18_20-42-40.jpg

In the picture below the male plug on the remote cable (circled in blue) will plug into you winch and run the other end of the remote cable (circled in yellow below) into the cab of your truck.

    upload_2017-1-18_20-43-56.jpg

You will cut off the remote cable plug (circled in yellow above) and connect the remote cable to the solenoid female plug (circled in red above) on mine the wires were the same color so connecting the remote cable to the female solenoid plug was simple.

The picture below shows what the female plug installed in the cab will look like.

    upload_2017-1-18_20-44-38.jpg

Plug in your remote cable that came with your winch and you should be able to control the winch from inside your cab or run the cable through your window and control it from outside your truck.

    upload_2017-1-18_20-45-2.jpg

The remote and cable stores nicely in the console between the seats as seen below.

Lol...thanks bro. I got that part. I just wanted to see how yours looks? Do you leave the solenoid pluged in all the time? I actually already have an extra female plug. All i need is another remote wire. When you get a chance can you post a pic of yours please?

Awesome write up btw. Thank you brotha!!

Yes it stays plugged into the solenoid, I don't have any pictures, it is inside my bumper.

I just realized you have a tube bumper. You may not want the plug sticking out of your winch all the time. You can wire it inside the solenoid and come out the back of it using a water tight wire pass through connector, similar to the one in the link below. That way you want see the plug or wire.

Love the mods. I'd like to do the sideview mirror mod and the seat mod. The front grill / headlight mod is awesome because I like the 97 too. Hard to justify when I could spend that money on some retrofit parts for my headlights, but it looks so good! Awesome truck - looks brand new.
