In October of 2022 I bought a 2000 SR5 Tacoma XtraCab 4wd MT from a friend with 151k on the clock, in the past 17 months I have put another 11k on it.

Here's what it looked like when I got it:

My goal with this truck is to install a Speeduino ECU and tune it on E85 and then slap the SuperCharger on it.

For the ECU for this build I have decided to go with the FishDog ECU by SpeedyEFI which is based on the OpenSource Speeduino project. I have never tuned a vehicle before and am excited to figure it out. The goal is to make the truck reliable so I won't be pushing the power far beyond the extra 25% of the SC, the main reason for E85 is not power but cheap high octane fuel for the SC. I'm also making all of the modifications easily reversible should I need/want to revert to stock.

    What I've done so far:
    • CarPlay stereo
    • Speakers
    • Metal door handles
    • GMRS radio
    • 3rd Gen TRD Pro clone bumper
    • 3rd Gen OR 16in wheels
    • Bilstein Shocks
    • New headlights
    • Timing Belt/Waterpump
    • Clutch
I've divided my planned upgrade into three stages, the plan being between each stage I will tune the truck to work with the modifications:

    Stage One:
    • Spartan WideBand controller
    • Speedy EFI FishDog ECU
    Stage Two:
    • E85 fuel pump
    • larger injectors
    • FlexFuel sensor
    Stage Three:
    • SuperCharger
    Other possible/want to do mods:
One of the reasons I picked the Spartan WideBand controller is it can emulate a NarrowBand sensor using the data from the WideBand, this will let me put the WideBand sensor in the factory upstream position, therefore eliminating the need to modify the exhaust and still being able to easily revert to the factory ECU.

I'm not planning on lifting the truck mainly for fuel efficiency reasons, while I enjoy offloading this is my daily driver and I'm planning a cross country trip from NC to OR in 2025.

The ECU along with the OEM ECU connector breakout board showed up!

SpeedyEFI should have the breakout board in their shop soon, they let me purchase mine early as I found the connector part number and gave them some other info on the ECU.

I started tuning it using the WideBand in the front O2 bung, unfortunately its emulation of a narrowband wasn't accurate enough and it was throwing a code with the stock ECU. Next step when I have some time is to remove the exhaust piece in front of the CAT and get 2 bungs welded in, an O2 bung, and a EGT bung.

It'll probably be a while before I make more progress as the AC is going out and around here AC is a necessity, I'm replacing every piece in the AC system.

@400$taco Thanks for the offer! I may hit you up some day for some advice.
