2000 Tacoma Sputters During Normal Operation/Idles Fine

Tacoma people who just bought a 2000 Tacoma for our teen daughter. We knew it needed a new fuel pump. Our son is a master mechanic student with Ford and dad is good at repairs too so they installed the new fuel pump today and replaced old gas with new gas. It starts up fine now (before it took a lot to turn over) and idles fine but still spits and sputters under general operation. My son is suggesting to clean or replace the fuel injectors first and change the fuel filter before I (mom) panics. Is there anything else that you would recommend that they look at for this matter? I won't allow her to even test drive her new baby until we get this resolved. Thanks!
