I have an opportunity to buy a 2000 taco TRD silver/gray metallic extra cab 4×4 5speed
w/75k garage keep very clean…timing belt and pump done… Is 18k too much you guys???

Has air bags and front sway bar added for a 1996 pastime 1100lbs. Camper that would be 20k for package deal...

Seems a bit high but might be within reason in the market? Not sure they were that much new. Sounds like a clean find though and in rare condition

Seems about right with the current market. 4x4 5 speed with 75K is not a bad find. Offer 15K and see what happens

2000 and older are more "rare" only because with toyotas frame recall all the 2000 and old rigs were bought back and crushed vs the 01 and newer actually getting a replacement frame.

I wouldn't say they are better, but they are less frequent than the last version of the 1st gens

A clean 1st gen in my area is pretty rare. Most have rotted out already. Still a few you see on the roads, but makes you wonder how much life they have remaining. And with the crazy high resale values on them, most aren’t worth the money people around here are asking IMO.

    15k for a 22 year old truck . Hmmmmmmm.

I wouldn’t expect to get that out of it if you decided to sell it in a couple years.

Meh. Do some gas mileage calcs and see. Currently I'd rather find a diesel

Every day there are fewer and fewer first gen Tacoma with less than 100k on the odometer. You will need to justify the price yourself. It's an older truck without a lot of tech, but to some people the simplicity and reliability of the older trucks is worth the price of admission in today's market. Good luck!

o_O have you filled up with diesel recently? :der:

It depends on just how bad you need this Truck!

Then these Trucks have a very regional Market

Oh good, another "is this too much?" post.

It's only worth what someone (you in this case) is willing and able to pay for it.

Low miles doesn't really mean all that much. Many components need replacement based on mileage OR time. Like if it's a V6, that 22 year old truck should be on its third timing belt by now, but I'll bet it still has the original.

I personally would not spend that much on such an old truck. Seems like a lot of these prices are as if they're selling Elton John's personal truck or something. I mean, I paid $24k for mine, but it was a year old when I got it.

But if you have the cash and this is THE truck you want, go for it and don't look back.

Now let me "weigh in" on the camper...

    :rofl::rofl:

That is NOT lightweight. It's only "designed" for the Tacoma in that it physically fits.

That Tacoma has a cargo capacity of somewhere around 1500# (that includes passengers, etc...). So with 1100 taken up in the camper alone, you put two people in it and NO GEAR, and it's over the weight limit.

That camper is trying to stuff 10 pounds of sh** in a 5 pound bag.

The only Tacomas that are rare are the ones in extremely good condition and/or very low mileage.
As for the 2000 you are considering as whether it's worth $18k is not possible to advise without good photos of outside/inside/underneath.

Having said the above, if the Tacoma is in excellent condition with only 75k it's worth $18k+ in my opinion considering what little $18K buys in today's inflated market.
With just 75k miles you will likely be able to get another 200K>250K miles out of it if property cared for. What else in today's market are you going to find at $18K that you are likely to
get 200K miles out of it. Nothing, except another Tacoma.

The below is a '96 with 415,000K trouble-free miles on it. I've turned down $20,000.
