Want to know what it's worth in the real world?

Ask your credit union what loan would be, ask your insurance agent what payout would be if it was totaled.

NADA is 17700 for high retail, which shocked me a little.

Since the timing belt and water pump have been done…your call.

    I had a 1999, (2) 2000, 2014 Tacoma trucks and enjoyed them all.

Totally incorrect, as lenders and insurers are just making a blanket evaluation to cover themselves without ever seeing the vehicle or knowing anything about it's condition.

Over my 47 years buying and selling over a hundred vehicles I have consistently gotten more than what lenders and insurers have stated as value, sometimes MUCH MORE.

Perfect example, I expect lenders/insurers will value my '96 in post# 21 above at $5000>$7000 (perhaps even less), however as stated I've turned down $20,000 for it.

He wasn't saying that the insurance buyout is what someone would be willing to pay for it.

But let's say someone buys said truck for $20k and then wrecks it. If the insurance is only willing to pay out $7k, they kinda screwed themselves out of that extra $13k.

So if you're consistently spending double on a vehicle what your insurance is willing to payout, you're not exactly making sound financial decisions.

No, your not talking to your insurer. You can tell them the value you want covered and they will adjust your premiums accordingly. It's not rocket surgery.

If the color is Lunar Mist, those were pretty rare for 2000.

Just bought my first taco this past March: 2000 V6 3.4L with 165000, for 12,500. I felt the price was a little high for myself but honestly it felt fair for this crazy market.

Came with a shell on it, frame looks excellent, came from Texas, one owner. Belt was recently changed before I bought it.

Haven’t looked back. It was a big purchase for me so I’m still nervous something might go wrong that I didn’t see up front but the engine and transmission run smoothly and those are the meaty bits.

Just be on the lookout for the headgaskets. I've been seeing a lot of recent threads about blown head gaskets on the 5VZ here. Might be worth doing just for peace of mind at such an old age

I really like the color scheme. This is the rarest one I've seen. Notice the painted door handles and fender liners? Also the TRD 4x4 + electronic windows for all 4 doors. Rare indeed. Only wish they'd remove that bumper guard and the hood guard.. but that's my opinion lol

It's good if you have the money. If you're hurtin for a truck as much as your wallet is hurtin for money, keep looking. Even though it has less than 100k miles, it's still 22 years old. A lot of plastic and rubber is deteriorating. keeping it in a garage just means it gets less dust and the paint isn't as worn.

My 2002 Xtra cab 4X4 TRD was $22,000 new at Santa Clarita, California, for comparison.
