Payload is 1650, but am I really going to hurt anything on a 5 miledrive if I pick up 2000lb of river rocks?

Bed won't crack or anything, right?

If you are worried about your truck and it's that short of a trip, why not make two trips?

if its only 5 miles why not just make 2 trips and for each one you'll be way under the max payload instead of 400lb over. i can see where your coming from that it should be ok but for 10 more min of your time why risk it.

x2, I wouldn't put 2,000 lbs in the bed of the Tacoma. I know people have done it and gotten away with it but for such a short trip, make 2 trips. Even at 1,000 lbs, I promise that you'll be sitting squarely on the bump stops thanks to Toyota's laughable excuse for leaf springs.

doubt the bed will crack since the load will be distributed thoughout the bed....my concern is the rear suspension.

2 trips IMO - or go really slow. It's not the static load that will kill your truck - it's the sudden hit of potholes, speed bumps, or body-roll when turning too hard/fast.

Can't, the load is measured by shovel (dozer) load. So, 1 scoop is 1.5 cubic meters which is 2,000lbs.

Ahh. Then stick a sheet of 3/4" Plywood in the bed to help distribute the weight and to the bump stops you go. Let us know how it goes. Pics or it didn't happen.
On second thought, how about a trailer? 1/2 on trailer, 1/2 in truck.

A 1.5 CM bucket will likely be longer than your truck's bed so you won't end up with the full load. Also, why couldn't the operator stop dumping mid load? It's not like it's not like you hit a button and it dumps, there is some operator control there.

It's not the load itself that would do damage to the bed. It's the dumping of said load into the bed that would cause any possible cracking.

Called another guy, $2 more per ton but they will split the load. 2,600lbs for $45, smoking deal I guess.

Even with splitting, i'd still put a sheet of plywood in the bed to protect it from the dropping of the rocks

that's true, plywood wouldnt be a bad idea. I bet the bed would hold up though - that composite material is tough stuff. If it was 0 degrees outside though - then it might shatter or crack, but no prob in the summer.

I had a bed full of soil in mine for a 10 mile trip. I did it twice actually. I don't know how much it weighed, but I do know that my truck didn't like it.

Like others have said, don't make a habit of it!
