2001-2004 Used Airbag Module Compatability

Hey yall-- need to swap out a dead airbag module-- already tried a reset, two opinions point towards replacement. It could be bad capacitors, havent taken a look yet though.

There is little information online about whether these modules are VIN matched. Seems to be a lot of blanket statements about the modules not working if not vin matched to vehicle. Hard fault code triggered, light still on, etc.

Has anyone ever tried to put a used module in and had issues? I saw a thread that said it was possible in a 1996, but Im looking for info specifically geared towards the 2001-2004 models

 

I would only say the only way to be 100% sure is sit down with all The EWD`s involved and compare .

All it takes is a few pins switched over the years which I see all to often to make things exciting.

It says nothing about The Air Bag Module in the EWD being VIN Matched.

 

Hmm okay I will try digging into those. I just came across another thread in which a 2000 was able to swap a module without problems. Only difference is he was able to find a used one for 25 haha less of a gamble at that point

 

As an update: was able to find a used working module from a salvage without airbag light. Popped it in and it works. No airbag light, no VIN needed-- although no clue if further calibration needed.
