Hey everyone, im curious if anyone has any recommendations, advice, or links to parts for catalytic converters. I have a 2001 3.4L prerunner that is California emission certified. I'm looking to replace the front Cat first and see if that solves my p0430 code and engine light. Not sure if I should go with magna flow or flowmaster although im leaning towards Flowmaster. Seems to be the best in price as well! Help is appreciated :)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you are looking to keep it CA smog certified then you have to go with brand new OEM cats, CA doesn't look kindly on aftermarket cats or used ones IIRC

They make 50 state legal aftermarket cats for most cars that are past the federal emissions warranty. Models are based off of engine family numbers. I'd go magnaflow over flowmaster. You can also see if walker makes a cat for your truck

In that case I don't necessarily need to keep it CA smog certified, I live in AZ so im more concerned with price at the moment. I want something effective and affordable cause OEM for the dealership always over priced lol I just looked up Walker brand Cats and they are same price range as flowmasters nice! Not sure on quality though will have to hunt around for reviews haha

I just put on a full flowmaster exhaust including both cats and the fit and build was spot on. Only minor issue is you will need to re-tap the o2 sensor bolt holes. Sealed great and no more check engine light.

Eastern Catalytic, they have California CERT and accepted cats, the precat is about $230. I replaced mine, passed Cali inspection no problem, much cheaper than OEM by leaps and bounds...they are stamped with the smog CERT for California...

Did you get the p420 bank sensor lean or something like that?

Does the 2.7L have more than one cat?

    What’s the pre cat ?

Don't know what it needs, but I have the upstream cat off a 99 donor 3.4 that looks new - I don't need it since I have a 98 with only one cat. :broccoli:

How does one tell if they have EGR or not?
