For reference, I paid $1400 for this truck here in Indiana. I bought it BECAUSE it has a frame that looks as good as yours. It had 250,000 miles. I put another $800-1000 in parts in it and I am pleased with having that amount in a truck with a rust free frame in this part of the country.

BTW, you could easily remove that worn out S/C and send it to me if you want to keep your investment low...:spy:

    thanks! I appreciate it!
and I know the feeling, despite my ability to do all the work still is hard to come up on the extra cash for doing my own bathroom remodels.

Ya I am currently preparing with purchasing all the fluids and all that jazz since it won’t be running for a while I do have some time to get everything and basically do it all at once.

Now Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard it’s not a great idea to replace auto transmission fluid because the particles that wear off the auto clutch stay suspended In the fluid and if you have a worn auto transmission, changing the fluid can cause a transmission replacement Or rebuild. Anyone heard this?

wow. Ya I’m just happier and happier about this deal as the days go by. I’m still in disbelief.

Oh also, how many people would need parts for a similar, silver 2004 4door taco3.4l? The tow truck that brought my truck to my house, actually has a crashed taco that looks veeeery similar to that picture of yours. It a little bit more squanched in the front, but doesn’t look like the timing belt was invaded by the radiator, By only a c-hair.
so I have basically another exclusive chance to buy that for cheap, but I need to call him and see what hell give that to me for.

One thing to notice on mine is that the impact is above the left front frame. The body mount was torn loose from the frame, but the frame itself was straight. Also, mine did not get a salvage title, even though I bought it from a salvage yard. Most likely, the owner only had collision insurance. He sold the truck directly to the salvage yard, who sold it to me. So, no insurance claim for repairs on the truck meant no designation as "totaled". That was also a deciding factor in my purchase.

ya that is legit, I mean, you still got a good deal on that. I felt like I was stealing it even as I handed them $1000, (the last $500 I actually ended up trading for extra drywall work because they would have just turned around and handed me $500 back, but thats still money I would have made, so i'm still counting it as $1500)

This other truck at the tow yard seemed to definitely have frame damage, that would be my bet. The collision was almost dead straight on, slightly from the passenger side. Its was hard to see what was going on with it all smashed. however, I believe that is almost the exact situation with this other truck and the title and all that. The owner didn't have insurance, or only had liability. however, considering the frame damage, if I was to pursue that wrecked 1st gen 4door, I would part it out almost certainly. aside from the collision damage, it is was a really nice truck before and the bed and cab are in great shape. the fenders barely missed the doors, so they are in good shape too..

I should probably start a thread to see who would be interested in parts. other than a frame.

Ya, the hole in the linear drain is in the center of the drain, the p-trap, if I remember correctly, went parallel with the linear drain towards the toilet, and met up with the toilet drain pipe.
This was a second story bathroom also, so joist access under the floor, not on a concrete foundation, so relatively simple to move around the plumbing.

    @96BlueTacos per your question

If there's no history of regular fluid flush on the Transmission, then a flush and fill at the dealership is a toss up. most people here on TW just drain the pan, and replace with same amount, and they do this several times over several months till it looks nice and red. I'm sure that there's a writeup on this subject in multiple places, you'll just have to search for it. I know some people will chime in about which Transmission fluid you should use, but I'm going to stick with Toyota Type IV. you can find it on Amazon a little cheaper than the dealership.

Thank you. This is the first automatic ill have ever owned, so I definitely will research about that slower replacement of fluid.

There are always TW members interested in a Part Out Truck. Some parts are getting hard to find, and knowing they came from a good donor truck, is even better. I don't think you'll have a problem making a profit from parting it out.

so lets assume that the frame is worthless. front fenders, hood, and any engine accessories at the front end are worthless. but basically, the engine it self is fine. at least the block forsure. it wasn't tipped over and basically everything from the cab back is in near perfect shape.

with that being said what would you offer?(I wish I had taken pictures) he's not really a Toyota guy, but he's a tow truck driver in the mountains and he's not a moron either.

I have no idea to be honest. I've never bought a wrecked vehicle before, maybe some other members that have been down that road will chime in. If the truck has serious front end frame damage, I'd hope you can get if for 1500 or less, but I really don't know. Depending on the milage, if the engine isn't damaged, you might recoup most of your money from that one sale. If you could get a picture of it, I'd post the question of "What would you offer for it" in the 1st gen section.

Ya I’m going to be doing a bit of grinding and re coating, from what I’ve seen others do, I should end up with a nice frame. Maybe I’ll do some reinforcements just because i can, and I will have removed at least some metal to clean everything up.

Great find and great deal!... I have a black '01 dbcb, just up the road from you in Loveland.. SC as well... I can tell you that I paid much more than you... and have more miles... you are kind of bumming me out... LOL.
The frame doesn't look that bad to me... If you have given it the ping test and it passed, then preventative treatments should be good.. I have a little more rust than you, my truck was in Michigan for the first 7 years... I have some safe t cap work to do.. not much, more for piece of mind.. Anyway, Sorry, this is your post, not mine.. CONGRATS and enjoy!!!

I just feel more and more lucky to have come across this. I was doing a little bit of detailing the interior because I had to get my hands on it in some way.
sorry to bum you out! Hahaha I wouldn’t do to much comparison though, because I do think a lot of it was the fact that these clients really liked me personally, were extremely happy with my work, and also knowing that me and the lady have our first baby on the way, we’re feeling extra generous. Also since he wasn’t really a mechanic-y person, the cost to pay someone to do everything to rebuild the SC, just didn’t make sense for them. So I think I was definitely “the stars aligning” kind of moment.

Damn nice work dude. I do home remodels as well, I wish one of my clients had a supercharged Tacoma for only $1500, that’s a crazy fucking deal.
Especially how clean the frame is for the price and just to rebuild the supercharger. I’ve never seen a deal that good haha.
    I’ll give you $1600 for it:rofl:
