I have a 2001 Taco DBL CAB,4X4,TRD,85K. Can I put regular OEM shocks on this truck or do they have to be TRD shocks ? Will going to a different shocks make it ride a little smoother or will I need to change the coil springs and leafs too ? Basically want to do away with the TRD stiff ride, what do I need to do ? Thanks !!! Tony

Do a search on google for a few different types of shocks, some like Bilstein, some like Rancho, some this, some that. I wouldn't pay extra for the TRD name, that's just me. I saved up a bunch O cash and bought some Alcan springs and 4 HD Bilstein shocks but kept the front springs OEM, it gives me a good combination of controlled ride not too harsh not too soft. I can't tell you whether it was just shocks or a combo of the shocks and Alcans, but when I first got the truck the fronts where shot. I didn't know it until I took them off, but they'd reached the end of their life in only about 4 years.

The Bilstien 5100 shocks are a much better shock than the OEM bilstiens. It would make a difference in the ride.
