The latest changes to the truck are underway... Rotopax, Maxtrax, On-board air, new lighting and a new roofrack system are soon to come. Everything is ordered and on its way. Once I get the parts I'll start building the new roofracks to fit everything over the next few weeks. I'm going to make a simplified version similar to the Prinsu racks. Rotopax, Maxtrax and a Plano storage case are going over the cab and the tent is going over the shell. Trail jack and shovel will be moved to a rack inside the shell.

Beautiful build man. I hope to get mine this built someday. How is that new 3.4 handling the extra weight and larger tires?

Thank you! It would definitely be better to regear to 4.56s but it gets the job done. It handles a little better than my 2000 2.7 liter with 33x10.50s.

Got the roofrack sold to a fellow Tacoma owner. He sent me this picture a few days after with the rack installed on the cab of his First Gen DC Prerunner. Same color and everything!

A little update on the roofrack progress... I don't think I will have everything done for Overland Expo West this weekend so I may be going back to the ground tent for this camping trip... :tumbleweed:

But the rack is coming along nicely!

I apologize for the crappy cell pics in advance..

Another camping trip to Lake Havasu and Parker Arizona. Nice and windy so it was a good time to test the awning out. Also hit some dunes south of Parker on the way home and tried out the Maxtrax. I'm very impressed with them so far. I can already see that I'll need to repair a few teeth soon though. Probably my fault for trying to use them at 35 psi though...

What did you use for the mounts on the rack? Thinking about doing this same set up, maybe a little more low profile!

I used sections of aluminum L track that are connected to the cab with rivnuts and are bolted through the cap. Then the roofrack is bolted to the L track with the studs below. The the L track stays on the roof at all times but the roofrack can be removed.

Also I don't think it could be much more low profile due to the curvature of the roof. The highest point on the roof is the back of the cab and there is about a half inch of clearance at the highest point on the crossbar there. This is essentially the determining point for the height of the rest of the rack if you want to make it flat accross the whole truck.

I bought the L track and hardware from Adventure Trailer in Prescott, AZ. But you can find it on Amazon and Ebay I think.
