2001 Mercedes ML430 "start error" in odometer

I just put in a new battery in my dads ML 430, it cranked and almost started twice but it's like it was lacking something. It cranked and sounded like it was going to start both times, now the engine won't do anything. Everything else works fine, a/c, door locks etc. it's just the engine won't start. This is a brand new battery. I installed it like 10 minutes ago. Anyone know hoe to get this thing started?

 

pump the gas, how old is it?

 

not sure when he got it, can't be too long ago, I think he's still paying it off. I'm going to try pumping the gas right now.

 

YUP that did it. thanks. The engine seems to sound funny though, like something is wrong maybe internally. Have to have him bring it to the dealer for a check up bad! It starts sounding fine on start up but then when you kind of push the gas a little more, it sounds like the engine can't take it.

sure, and the battery shouldnt have any effect on the rest of the engine, maybe the airfilter is dirty.

 

or fuel filter

 

hell if I'm going into that damn thing. it was a headache just changing the battery.
