    Hey all,

New to the forum as of today, also just bought myself a 2001 Prerunner today as well. :) Anyway, just wondering what I could do to the truck to make it better offroad (it didn't come with the locking diffs)? I've owned a '99 Tacoma 4x4 in the past and I loved it. Suggestions?

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Do you have a sort of budget? Mild? Extreme? I would on a budget start with 5100's set at 2.5" and rear 3 leaf AAL. Or full OME kit with NitroChargers and Dakar rear leafs. Also Eibach coils with Bilstein 5100's. Or if money permits you can look into some coilovers from Kings or Icon and build from there with new UCA's, rear shocks and leaf pack. Wheels and tires. Performance wise you can do the deck plate mod, muffler or better yet start with a tune up with new fluids, spark plugs, timing belt and etc.

Budget is mild at this point. I was going to start with the 30K maintenance thread info I found on here and go from there (fluids, plugs), since I don't know what the previous owner did. Timing belt/pump is ok, as per inspection. Struts need to be replaced in the future, I might do the 5100's etc. Pardon my newness, but what is a deck plate mod?

Also, the Prerunner comes higher up stock than the plain 4x2, but how high? I was reading that it's basically the 4x4 minus the transfer case, etc. True?

Yep, 2 wheel drive on a 4x4 suspension.

Is your Prerunner a TRD package? If so you should have rear differental lockers. Look to the left of your steering wheel there should either be a RR Diff Lock button or blank.

4x4 suspension, so that means upgraded shocks, struts, springs?

Thanks for all the help! One more question: is there an aftermarket add-on that is the same as the TRD package?
