I've got some very decent wood ramps that gets it up fairly high so that I can squirmy around on my shoulders underneath in the middle, but just not quite have it figured out in the rear yet

That is definitely the treads that pulled out. That is not a hell-coil. A heli-coil has to be tapped to a larger size to be threaded in, thus leaving you with the inside of the heli-coil being the original bolt diameter and thread pitch. The outside of that is flat, which means there is no way that was threaded in (heli-cool) and was just caused by being over tightened and pulled the aluminum threads out with it. This is not uncommon when you have a steel bolt and aluminum threads.

Does that thread into the center manifold? No a hard part to find if you need to replace it.

ya it’s the long center bolt, I haven’t ever pulled apart a 5vz down to the bones, but are you saying maybe buy a new center manifold instead of drilling out and time-serting the bad thread?

Wouldn’t I need to replace this whole chunk? That seems more intensive than time serting the bad threads:notsure:

Yeah just buy one from a machine shop or junk yard - you’ll have to remove it if you want to replace knock sensors regardless.

It was over torqued spinning the threads right out of the aluminum. The bolt is probably ok.

Use a magnet to see if those stripped threads are steel or aluminum.
Doesn’t that bolt attach into the block? Not the manifold?
It’s position is pretty far down the front of the motor

No it would have to pass all the way though the gap between the plenum and the block where the knock sensors are.

If it’s threaded into the lower plenum, intake then definitely just get a new one as stated,
I can’t picture where this bolts actually taps into

Yeah, only the head bolts thread into steel on the top end of the engine. Few random things like the coolant bypass tube, ground strap, etc. get bolted to the top of the block too.

This bolt isn't the only one holding the sc - anything to keep it snug - 13 ft lbs is a little snug up basically.

Ya I’m gonna go with either a helicoil or a time sert. Haven’t decided yet. If that eventually fail, then I’ll go for a lower plenum swap. Hoping next weekend will stay open and I will get the Sc removed and sent off
