Just got my motor out of my truck after months of waiting, took a look at the clutch and it doesn't look bad at all, at least I don't think it does, but I figured I might as well replace it if I have it out. My question is, is this clutch useable for maybe a hundred thousand more miles? I know that's stretchin it, but if I do need to replace it then what's the best kit I can get for under $300ish? Also, kinda off topic but what trans fluid do I use in here? Truck is a 2.7l 3rzfe 4x4, thanks

Trust me, if you have it out, replace it. Murphy's law will always answer you ? within the first year if you don't. Have the flywheel resurfaced and buy a new clutch kit.

alright i wound up buying a luk clutch from pep boys for $250, from what I've read they are pretty solid clutches so i think it'll be good, i didn't want to wait another week to put my truck together so i kinda took it and went with it, not many places had clutches on hand. just a few questions again, if anyones used a luk clutch, how heavy is the pedal? and how grabby is it? I'm planning on having the flywheel resurfaced tomorrow morning, i was REALLY tempted to put it in without resurfacing because I'm dying to have it together and no one was open today, but I'm gonna do it right. Another quick question when i put the throwout bearing in from the luk kit, it was very loose feeling and it didn't seem right, does it just kinda clip in and fit together when the clutch goes on? and thanks trx, i knew i should, just didn't want to delay putting it in any longer.

Quick update, I got the flywheel resurfaced on Tuesday and got RIPPED OFF I looked into it and most people said they got it done for $20 or maybe $40 some even said $15 but I got charged a whopping $75 just to resurface the thing, it was partially my fault for not asking in the beginning how much it'd be but I didn't really expect it to be that much. Oh well, anyway, I got the clutch assembled on the new motor and it's ready to be put in this weekend, almost there. On a side note, the motor I bought I believe was from an automatic Tacoma, I'm putting it into a manual and I think that's gonna pose some problems as far as the transmission wiring goes, is it the same wiring? I doubt it right? and if not I can just swap over the wiring easily right? Thanks

I dont know about the luk clutch but I just installed a Perfect Clutch from Advance on Monday in my 95 Tacoma 2.7l. So far the feel at the lever is good and it feels great but only has about 30 miles on it. My last clutch was a $50 ebay special and it made it almost 100k. Last time I surfaced the flywheel so this time I replaced it, also Advance Auto (30% off coupons is a life saver).

The connections should be the same on the tranny, you didn't change that they are two independent systems. The Luk clutch is an OEM replacement. Toyota uses both Asin and Luk clutches in their manual tranny's. I don't know that I would trust the quality of a shop that only charged $15 to resurface a flywheel, unless a I had a hook up somewhere. $50-75 is about the going rate for an hour of shop time. I would think it would take that long to set the milling machine up and cut it with a flywheel cutter for a quality job. It would be a real beech, if you got it all back together and have bad clutch chatter and such. Having said that you can track down a deal on a new flywheel for less than $100.

A lot of people on this site have said they had it done for more than half, and some guys said $50 would be overpriced, it is a good looking job though, what's done is done. And auto transmissions have The same electrical systems as manuals? I assumed there would be more tech in there, but I don't know much about transmissions, so a wiring harness for an auto is the same as the manual? If so that's awesome. and I did go to advance actually but they didn't have any clutches on hand so I was running around looking for one, if I ever need a new clutch I think I'll just stick to aisin, just because that's what was in the truck before and that thing lasted a long while...
