    2001 Tacoma 3.4 prerunner
    Hello,
I'm new to the group. I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to get a straight answer. I have a 2001 3.4 auto trans prerunner and I was told today that my ECM needs to be replaced. Are they plug and play or do they need to be programmed?

My second question is my transmission was rebuilt 1.5 years ago and now when you floor the gas it is very hesitant to change gears at high rpm's. It will change if you let off the gas but if you leave it floored the tachometer will sit there and bounce a few times before it changes gears. The shop who rebuilt it says it's the ECM. There are no check engines lights on either. So I ordered one today off ebay. Can someone help out with this? I appreciate it.

Doesn't sound like a PCM issue but they are plug and play providing you get the same part number as the original PCM.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Before you pull the trigger they need to show you proof and warranty all the work involved. Proper diagnostics prior to replacing shit.

The ECM does control the shift points on the A340 trans. But there are other components that could factor in as well. I agree, the shop that did the work should do a proper diagnostics that verifies all the shift solenoid are functioning correctly.

As for a replacement ECM, I'd be very surprised if new ones are still available. But you should be able to find them used. Check out a local junk yard maybe. A replacement must match your model year and engine.
