I recently purchased a 2001 4dr 4x4. It has the automatic transmission and i find it shifts "rough" through all the gears. Especially going between Forward and reverse. Has anyone had this issue and could point me in a direction to try and solve this problem.

Welcome to the transmission service rabbit hole.

I would suggest to simply draining the fluid from the transmission pan, and then refilling the exact same amount of new (MaxLife Full Syn) ATF through the transmission dipstick.

One of two things will happen after that:

    1) it will be fine, and you can do another drain and fill in a few hundred miles to cycle some more of the old ATF out.
    OR
    2) it won't be fine, and you'll be looking to source a rebuilt transmission.

If you search, there are plenty of threads floating around that cover drain and fill quite extensively.

Rabbit hole is a good way to put it.
Just recently my 02 started clunking during shifts intermittently, then decided to be stuck in gear intermittently.
I decided to drop the trany pan and put a new filter in, to my dismay there were lots of metal chunks, not just fines in the pan and filter, I'm assuming from the hard shifting it was doing.
Since doing this I have driven it sparingly with no issues, yet.
Finding a new trans has not been easy, but I have been told it is on its way, 6 to 8 weeks out.

I was planning a to use this as an off road vehicle at the camp, which is about a 4 1/2 HR drive. I wanted to get as much done at the house before I tow it up there. Ill definitely give the drain and refill a shot. I was searching the forum and I thing a worn out valve body may be my issue.

It's certainly possible- but it's also possible that you just have really dirty ATF in there as well. A drain and fill would at least allow you to assess the condition of the current ATF and help drive subsequent troubleshooting and decision-making.

Well after dropping the pan it looks like I am in need of a new transmission. It seems the previous owner had some transmission work done and replaced the valve body with the wrong one to get the truck working. It shifts with high line pressure because there is no place to hook up the throttle pressure cable, and on the tail section it seems the bolt pattern is off I have one bolt that doesn't line up with any mounting holes. Anyone know of the best place to find an new or rebuilt transmission(a340f)?

I’m not sure the zip kit will fox my problem. The valve body I have does not have the throttle cam in it. I’m not sure what is going on in there.
