    Greetings everyone,

Questions: Does anyone have any experience installing Viper car alarms, and/or ever experience problems with them? Does anyone know if these alarms damage other parts of the electrical system?

Situation: Someone tried to steal my Taco again, so I bought a Viper alarm, model 3105V, new unit off Amazon.

(Truck has new battery, and alternator.)

Got professional installer to put alarm in. He removed the old original Toyota alarm module.

Alarm killed the battery the first night. Did a couple tests, tried leaving alarm off overnight, it still killed the battery. Installer unplugged it today, to see if there is something else happening.

Online search has shown other people have had similar issues, but gave no conclusive answers, or final outcomes of their problems.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rob

I have a Viper system on my 2018 Tundra that I daily drive and I use it's remote start daily. The system works great and doesn't kill my battery. I can't speak to any experience on how it works on a 1st Gen Tacoma though. Sounds like your installer screwed something up

Likewise, I have had a Viper system on my first gen since purchased in 2018. No issues with it killing the battery but I've had it go in lockdown mode before preventing me from starting the truck. Caused all sorts of trouble, turns out there's a setting to turn it off but very difficult to navigate the setup.

That said, the range is amazing on it and the automatic start I use half the year.

I took a Directed Electronics Inc. (the parent of Viper) system off my 2003 when I upgraded from my 2001 (with Toyota VIP) six or seven years ago. The DEI system seemed to be flatting my battery in three or four days. I never figured out what was wrong with the control module, wiring, or the installation, but with it gone my problems disappeared.

If you still have your Toyota VIP system and its wiring harness, @Robotnik, I'm lookin' for one!
