I have a 2001 Tacoma pre runner I am selling. The check engine light has been on for 7+ years. Back when it first came on the mechanic at my oil change place told me it was a cigarette lighter causing the light to come on. I took it today to have it checked again for a possible fix before selling it and they are telling me that there code readers will not connect to my truck. Only way to know is to let them run diagnostics on it to find the issue. Truck has never had one problem. Any ideas? Should I just sell it with the light on?

It is very easy to have your OBDII system not connect .

My Tacoma and 4Runner does it quite often

If you have not pulled codes in a few years very understandable it will not connect.

Most times it is a simple problem of the pins being corroded or poor quality on the devices being used.

Some people just can`t understand and don`t try and get things working

Mosttimes some electrical cleaner will fix the issue.

Here (Pa) if your MIL is on you don`t get your emission sticker so your not street legal

Selling your truck here the MIL being on would really lower the price most would pay

I can understand not changing your oil yourself if you have a very good reason .
