I have a 2001 Tacoma 3.5 v6 4x4. Auto. I bought the truck with knowing the transmission was having problem . I found a wrecked 2001 4runner with the exact transmission (A340F) I did the swap and it fits but the wiring harness doesn't match up. I have both wiring harness for 4runner/tacom . I thought they both had the manual kickdown cable but now I'm thinking ones electric and other one is manual. Any suggestions?

I have no clue since I have a manual but here's a free bump for someone with a real problem that needs help.

Are the transmissions the same as to where things connect and the plugs just wired different .

Completely different plugs ?? Do you have the EWD for your Tacoma you might have to source one for the 4Runner .

sit down one wire at a time

So you don’t have a kickdown cable?

I believe 2001+ 4Runner Limiteds have the AWD transfer case. Can’t use those. SR5 and below should be fine. 2001+ could also be ETCS-I electronic throttle.

If you do have the kickdown cable it’s as simple as swapping whatever sensors or modules don’t plug in. I used a 1999 Tacoma transmission on my 1998 and one sensor was different, so I simply swapped the old sensor.

I used the orginal transfer case. The 2001 tacoma has a manual kick down cable and the 2001 4runner I believe had the electric kick down cable.
