Seen this on FB. Neat but would be a better conversion using a sunrader shell. More room and better layout.

 

Love it, but not sure about $35k with almost 300k miles hauling that much weight.

Appears to be very nicely done. Covid-19 times are different and money isn't what it used to be... but damn $35k with almost 300k miles?!

 

It's only that expensive because the interior was lined with wood....

IIRC, they never actually say how heavy that thing is. I'm betting lots. Likely never weighed it because he doesn't want to know how much over GVWR it is.

Put as many airbags and stiff springs on there as you want, but Tacomas simply aren't a great platform for these types of builds.

 

Camper appears to big for the 1st gen, I bet that thing drives like a soup.

I have to disagree on that. I think for a specific niche makes a wonderful platform

 

Can't be any worse than a 22R dolphin.

 

But the dolphin had dually’s.

...and a sweet project in Northern Cali. If this is a real ad then someone could make some coin. Make a flat bed for the '77 truck and use the Chinook camper on a newer truck.

Conceptually, sure. Campers are cool.

However the weight is what I'm specifically talking about. Tacoma's simply aren't built to take weight. Frame, engine, suspension, brakes, none of it is suited for something like that.

You can disagree all you want. but GVWR is GVWR and that doesn't change.

 

Pretty much this. Gorgeous woodwork, sure. But you're not going to get your money's worth out of that drivetrain.

 

I’m actually thinking more 2nd or 3rd gen than 1st gen.
