How did you get them to replace the frame outside the 15yr warranty period?

I argued.... A LOT! I told them it was a safety hazard, what if my truck snapped in half while I was driving and you refused to replace knowing it was defective steel?! I also had the excuse of moving to Hawaii, because I moved around I claimed I never saw the warranty notice (which is the truth). So, after literally hours of arguing with many different people on the phone they allowed me to bring it in to my local dealer and see if there was a hole in the frame. If they found a hole they would replace. I brought it in, threw it on the lift, no hole visible... all it took was a few taps! The dealership is in favor of finding the hole because they get paid to do the work assuming they find one. Just gotta talk the guy up and hope you can find something...

huh - that's the first time I've heard of Toyota agreeing to replace outside the 15yr window. Mine is an AZ truck ('01 ext. cab - zero rust) but I brought it to VT this past March and immediately had it professionally undercoated (inside the frame especially) so I hope that will be sufficient to ward off the rust that will begin to develop this winter.

Congratulations - you're story is indeed a rare outcome from what I've read on this forum

Great job on talking the dealership into replacing your frame and having the Plastidip done on the exterior paint of your truck. It looks like you took good care of your truck considering its age.
