I am try to help my neighbor with his 2001 Prerunner with the 3.4l. He is getting a CEL with P0300, P0303, P0306. He has changed the plugs which he said gave it better power, but the codes came back. New set of wires and same problem. Swapped coils and same problem. The truck runs good. On hard accelleration it accellerates good but when letting off the gas it pops a couple of times and triggers the light. He took it to the local garage and they were swamped but said they thought it was electrical and not the injectors. He is planning to take it back to they after the Holidays. Any ideas on what we could check before then? After everything he has changed it is consistantly those two codes. Please help and thanks.

Unfortunately, it could be a lot of things - for example ... vacuum leak, injectors, fuel pressure, wiring fault, valves, coolant temp sensor, etc.

Just wanted to give some feedback on my neighbors Tacoma I was helping him with. He finally got a new O2 sensor and that cleared the O2 related codes. After changing wires, plugs and swapping coils, he was still getting the P0303 and P0306 misfire codes. He told me yesterday that he took his truck to a small garage in town and the mechanic fixed it in 2 minutes at no charge. I will get the exact description of the fix later but according to my neighbor (not mechanically inclined) the mechanic said something like this... The P0303 and P0306 codes are a default error code when you get certain misfires. That is why the codes did not change when he tried everything related to cylinders 3 and 6. He said the problem was caused by something with the rev limiter. He wasn't sure what he actually did to the rev limiter but all is good now. I will try and stop at this shop and get more info as I have seen a lot of people have similiar problems. Just wanted to put this out there for discussion and possible suggestion for others with a similiar problem.
