I have a 2002 2.7 automatic 4wd Tacoma that wont start. I started trouble shooting it by seeing if it was getting fuel so i pulled the #1 plug out and it is wet with gas. So i figured it was a no spark problem but i tested it and it is sparking and the spark looks strong.

What do you think could be wrong here? weak fuel pump maybe? or maybe timing? or a clogged catalytic converter?

Well i think it might be the catalytic converter because i just held my hand over the tail pipe while someone else cranked it. I felt pressure building so i took my hand off and it fired then died. I will try to cut the pipe off at the rear cat and see if i can get it to start.

Would pulling the O2 sensor relieve enough pressure for it to start?

Well i had planned on removing the exhaust to see if it would fire. But i had to do other stuff and eat dinner and i came back a few hours later and it started. It ran rough like it was flooded (go figure i had been cranking on it to get it to start for a while). But the idle smoothed out and i drove it and it was fine. No problem reving it or anything so i am thinking that it was just flooded somehow.

Last fuel injected thing i flooded was a TBI jeep 2.5 and i revved it up and shut it off killing the spark. I did not do anything like that on this truck but maybe i might have let off before it fired and ended up wetting the plugs? Spark plugs are relatively new i might replace them again anyways.

Drive it. Change the plugs if they need it. And get an American flag. LOL
