I have an 03 Tacoma PreRunner 2WD, and an 02 SR5 4WD has come available in my neck of the woods for a decent price.

I was wondering, are most of the drivetrain and motor parts swappable? My guess is yes...

Outside of the obvious which are not (body, rear springs, interior) and the 4WD stuff.

I'm asking in case I ever needed to pull parts from the 4Runner to keep the Taco running (my preferred vehicle) or if I ever wanted to convert my Taco to 4WD and want to use the 4Runner as a donor.

You don't mention whether both have the same engine, but I assume they do :).

A lot of the motor parts, much of the front suspension, and some of the other drive train parts are swappable (as you correctly guessed). And of course, a lot of the rest of everything is similar, but I was surprised how there were little differences between my 97 4Runner and 00 Tacoma that made them not just plug-and-play swappable in a lot of cases. Personally, I wouldn't pick up a 4Runner to be my "parts truck" for my Tacoma, but any skills you have from working on one will obviously translate to the other.
