2002 4wd wont engage

    2002 tacoma
    I just purchased a 2002 Tacoma. The 4x4 light comes on and off randomly but does not react to engaging the 4wd switch or the 4L shifter. I jacked up the front end and found that the front axle stays locked in but the transfer case will not engage even when shifted into 4L. I’m thinking it needs a new transfer case which I have in a salvage 4Runner and some “cleaning” of the axle actuator. Thoughts?

    Yea rule out electrical issues or a stuck actuator (in the tcase) before jumping to just swapping the whole thing out.
