Hello. My 2002 V6 Tacoma had a rusted brake line. I ended up replacing all the lines in the rear. I replaced the wheel cylinders in the rear also. I replaced the brake line fittings but different than the ones that I took off-the old ones had smooth ends on them- the ones I had were threaded the whole way. I also replaced the master cylinder. I blew out the brake lines with air when the master cylinder was off, and they were clear. My issue is that I still have no pedal. I’ve bled the brakes 7 times, until no air comes out. If I pump my brakes, eventually the rears will slow me down. I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions? Thank you I love this forum, it’s helped me a bunch

    A few thoughts:

    1) Confirm that the truck doesn't have abs. While some trucks may not have abs, by 2002, most did. Trucks with abs will have the abs module here:

    2) Did you bench bleed the MC prior to installation?
    3) What procedure are you using to bleed the system?
    4) Each time you're bleeding the brakes, do you get to a point where no air bubbles are present in the fluid, and then when you try again there are more bubbles?

You should be bleeding R/R first, L/R, R/F and lastly L/F.

Are you getting brake fluid without air at each wheel when bleeding?

Yes, I bench bled the MC.
Pump pedal, open bleeder with pedal all the way down, when bleeder opens pedal goes to floor. 2 people
That has happened-no air then the next day little air.
Yes, furthest to closest to bleed.
Yes fluid with no air when bleeding.

Copy- no ABS. Which is good, cause it really makes things more simple.

Are you bleeding the LSPV? located above the left rear axle?

    LSPV?
Is that the box the brake lines go into?

Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. If you follow the soft rear brake line up from the axle to where it connects up at the frame, you'll find the LSPV. There is another bleeder on it.

You mentioned replacing the rear hard lines and wheel cylinders. Did you do anything to the front hard lines/soft lines/calipers?

No, the fronts all look good, calipers are recently changed, I’ve seen no leaks of fluid anywhere…

That being said, it seems as though it’s the front brakes that aren’t working

Wondering if there's a small leak in a front hard line that you haven't managed to detect yet. Or maybe a bad brake booster that is inhaling brake fluid?

The fluid in the reservoir isn’t noticeably going down or going down at all, but I’ll scrutinize the fronts again to be sure. I appreciate you talking through this with me. I’m new at fixing my own rig, I’m learning a lot.

    Yes!!!!
I found the LSVP and after knocking all the rust off of it, bled that first, then the rest and that did the trick!
Thanks to everyone who responded and helped me out.
