Well shit, you've patched it before? If toyota notices that it will prolly kill any chance you had of a replacement id guess...not to mention it was bought and lived in a non covered state for most its life...

The dealer mechanics don't care if you've made repairs. As long as you qualify, the frame will be replaced.

The mechanics are paid very well by Toyota to do the swaps. The more they have done, the faster they can do a switch and the more money the mechanics make.

    Helm,

If your truck is part of the extended warranty program then you should be covered BUT there are some criteria that you need to meet.

1- truck needs to be within 15 yrs of the purchase date so being an 02 I'm guessing you have a few months left.

2- truck must have been part of the extended warranty. This is NOT A recall. If you call it a recall dealer will look it is as a recall and find nothing. If the truck was originally sold in a state where they salt the roads you are probably included but you can find actual state info in the forums here.

3- the truck MUST have been inspected AND. Undercoated by Toyota before that part of the warranty expired back in 2010. If your truck has some really crappy tar like undercoating that is flaking off everywhere then it was coated.

4- this one I'm not 100% sure on as I've heard stories both ways but you might need to be the original owner or at least have owned the truck during the undercoating process back around 2009-2010

I'm going through this with my 2003 right now and Toyota has been great about the whole thing.

Good luck @Helmj87. Hope they do right by you and replace your frame.

I hate California for a lot of reasons, but this is one reason I do love living here...no rust.

If the dealer denied you for frame recall check, tell them you are going for a "frame warranty," call toyota corporate and get a reference # first. I called a few months ago and got a call back from mgr from corporate, the frame is warranty for 15 years, its not "for frame recall," I had to call corporate when I was at the dealer because the service writer said there no recall on the frame or it already pass the recall, so I call toyota corporate with my reference # and had them talk to the service writer.

You don't need to be the original owner.
I purchased my Tacoma in 2012, it was inspected and treated in 2009 by the previous owner and Toyota replaced my frame last year.

Just my 2 cents here because I went through this last year with an 04 that was sold to me with a bad frame in NJ.
    A) will not take long for Toyota to respond to you..
    B) if it passed inspection but not coated, you are in trouble, as that was my case and Toyota denied the frame replacement.
    C) don't need to be the original owner of the vehicle.
    D) my 04 was inspected by the dealer in my area, showed signs Of having been undercoated at some point but since Toyota Corp didn't have it on their records it did not matter. I was even able to talk to the dealership who had originally inspected the truck and they confirmed that the original owner had failed to bring the truck back in for the undercoating to be applied, all this was in Newburgh NY.
Wish you the best of luck and a better outcome than mine.
