Hi everyone, I have a 2002 Double Can and wanting something more secure to install infant car seats in the back rather than the seatbelt. My 2002 doesn’t have the LATCH system as it wasn’t a requirement yet at the time. Can people with a 2003 or 2004 confirm if they have the LATCH system in their double cab? If you do, can you provide pictures of how they’re attached to the car? I’m wondering if they’re installed into the frame or if they are part of the seat and I could get them from a 2003/2004 seat from the junkyard.

04 Double Cab... never have noticed a latch system you speak of. Will look inabit

If ur talking child seat larger than a little booster seat... it might be a tight fit.

'04 here and I have the LATCH system.

They're just bent rods that are welded to the seat brackets.

Pretty easy to just DIY some brackets...

Yes! Those things. So to confirm, they’re part of the seat right? I can’t really tell where that is in the seat. Which seat brackets are they welded on? I’m thinking if they’re part of the seat and not the car I can potentially just buy an 03 or 04 seat from a scrap yard?

The one in the picture is the far passenger side bracket where the seat bolts to the chassis, next to the door.

The 1st pic is with the seat back folded down, looking straight down at the bracket. 2nd pic is with seat back up (my hand is on the seat back), and I am pushing the cushion up slightly because you can't see it otherwise because it's recessed slightly.

I wouldn't go out and buy whole new seats just for this. You could pretty easily make your own. I'm thinking maybe steel flat bar from home depot. Just bend the flat bar in sort of a Z pattern so one end mounts to the same bolt the seat uses, and the other end sits just inside the seat cushion. Depending on what your child seat hooks look like, just a whole in the end of the flat bar would work...

Better yet, tell the wife you need a welder. Get some ~1/4" rod and bend it to the shape you see in my pic, and weld 'er in there.

If she balks at you for wanting a welder, ask her why she doesn't care about the safety of your child.

In the first picture, I assume the top of the picture is the front of the car. Is the black thing to the left the car Jack fixed in the car? (Originally thought that it was a seat bracket and I couldn’t find it in my car lol!)

How is the bracket for the LATCH system fixed into the car? Is it bolted onto the car or bolted to the seat? It looks like it’s going underneath the seat cushion?

Anyone have more insight on how the LATCH system is fixed to the car? Additional photos would be helpful. I'm trying to mimic the original install so I can put it in my 2002.
