2002 No cel on startup assuming the light is burned out? Also no horn

The CEL doesn't seem to turn on at startup. As far as I know, there are no codes, but it's possible the light was on for so long that the bulb burned out I didn't get any codes as of week ago I'll check again

Also, my horn isn’t working. I checked the fuse under the steering wheel (I believe it’s the correct one), and it looks fine. I'm thinking it might be the spiral cable but I'm not completely sure. Not sure where to start there would I hear the relay clicking if I pressed down on the horn switch?

 

Yeah, CEL should come on when the key is in the "on" position with the engine off.

For the spiral cable do you have cruise control? Does that still work?
Mine broke and I replaced it a bunch of years ago.

i ask bc sellers or 'flippers' have been known to pull bulbs out of cluster
-CE bulb
appears no issues
-AirBag bulb
no horn(if fuses OK) typically clock spring which would pop AirBag light

 

A scan tool should tell you if the CEL is illuminated or not even if the bulb is out. Do all of the other dash lights come on during the bulb check part of turning the key?

 

It’s possible your CEL bulb is faulty. The horn could be as simple as a fuse or a relay.

 

CEL should come on key ON, Engine OFF.
Not on startup.

If it doesn’t come on Key On, Engine OFF.
But you can communicate with the even via scanner, it’s probably the bulb.
Other wise, you’d likely not be able to communicate with the ECM. As 99% if the CEL won’t come on, the ECM is offline.


Unless of course, as I said, the bulb is burned out.
