New to forum....long time yoyo taco fan. Ac is chirping and attempting some kind of unusual mating call? Never had to do much on the best truck I've ever owned, but recently had to replace worn belts belts. Then heard the underlying issue with ac when turned "ON". Chirping when ac is turned on and goes in and out audibly as you go down the road. Turn AC off and engine just purrs...engage it and back to chirping. Hand turned the clutch and its doesn't spin freely, but it's not hard to turn(I can feel the slight compressor vibrations through the clutch as i turn it manually) and can't figure if its clutch or compressor failing.....it's no spring chicken at 21+ years so what's the word on an old noisy bird? I live in Montana where we dont have use for it too often but latst 10 years more and more. Question;Replace clutch or replace the whole compressor? Never attempted in dealing with the this kind of problem. I've read you can have a shop empty the R134 and then replace compressor, then have a shop do the filling? Better than Amazon cheap dreams or better to just be practical....a bit frugal but also want to do it right. Any of the fluid dealings is way beyond my pay grade but im good at pulling and installing parts? Any thoughts or past experiences you like to share about my sounds and how i should approach this mountain of a repair? Since 2008, I had never had a vehicle that wasn't always repairing so I must admit, I got out of practice after getting many of the tools needed along the way.
