Hi, I had my frame replaced 9/10 under warranty and now almost 10 years later I noticed there are several spots on the inside of the passenger side frame that are rotted through. One about the size of a quarter and another whole about the with of a pencil and about 4 inches long. did toyota warranty the replacement frames? If so for how long?

    Thanks
    Matt

Many had this happen to them.
For the life of me, and I'm speaking generalities here, I don't understand how if a frame rusts out on someone and they get a no cost replacement on Toyota's dime, why wouldn't that person have learned they should do things differently with the new frame so that it doesn't rust out?
And if it rusted out again the second time, in spite of all your fluid filming and protecting of the frame, than yes, you are the unlucky one. Those that learned to treat and protect the frame from their first one rotting out have been able to keep their new frames in great shape. Those that didn't do anything for their new frames were/are in same situation you're in.
Depending how much and how bad the rust is some have had good results having new metal welded into their frames. It isn't cheap though unless you are DIY

Either way, that sucks man, sorry to hear it :(

Fluid Film for the win since new. $40 to $50 a year to get it done as a preventive maintenance measure.

Warranty on the replacement frame was 1 year. Sadly your out of luck. That being said where are you driving this thing? We’ve got plenty of frames on trucks that were replaced 09-10 and they’re still all looking pretty good. (Chicagoland)

I agree and am not upset. I live in Mass and I have been very good about washing the under carriage of my truck throughout the winter. I guess I should have treated the frame with something but didnt think it was necessary. I do recall the dealer telling me that the new frame was treated to prevent rust unlike the original. Cant complain Ive had the truck almost 20 years and 265K and it runs great.

They were coated better but ultimately they’ll still rot from the inside out. No matter how well you paint it the inside. Unless it’s coated with oil or something every year it’ll eventually get rust and slowly rot inside out. Part of the reason you don’t see boxed frames anymore

there are some very good 'paint' products out there i have found that are heavy duty converters and seal it all up right & proper i would think?
enlarge that one or two pea-sized drain holes for better drainage?

it certainly did not get like this did it?

local salvaged truck, on the roads until the death it finally collapsed & left abandoned
my state has no annual safety checks or it most likely would not have been on the road still

The best thing to do is plug all the holes on top and the side of the frame. Leave the drain holes open and make sure they’re stay unrestricted. You keep the shit out and it’ll last longer

i am sure those other holes have a 'purpose' such as evaporating moisture (to a certain degree so its not trapped?) in the humid places such as the friendly mid west
but i really know nothing about any of this

Not that I have to worry about it, but do the dealers let the owner take the new frame to have it sealed and painted if the owner desires? And than bring it back for the replacement.
