You can blame the EPA Mileage Mandates cutting weight to get the fuel mileage up. and Liquid brine .

It is not only Toyota having rust Issues .

Look at all the bridge weight reductions

No vehicle line is immune to rust and corrosion in my neck of the woods. Adirondack Mts. I've been a professional auto tech for over 30 years and every make and model rust. At least my last two Tacoma brakes faired really really well. Brakes rust out here long before they wear out, like every year.

The fact that rust occurs is, of course not Toyota’s fault, however you’d think that after their long history with frame rot issues they wouldn’t do stupid things like route the A/C to drain directly onto the frame like on the 3rd gen Tacoma.

They have it draining on frames in like every body on frame model. The 120 platform has the same stupid setup and there is always rust in that spot.

The floor meaning in cab on passenger side? better than onto the frame I guess huh?
I better remove that hose I added to guide the condensate back to the OEM location, the frame:oops::toyota:

I know this is an older post but I have a 2001 tacoma, 4 cylr., the frame had been replaced sometime before I bought the truck which was in Oct. 2013. Last month, a mechanic had the truck on the lift and showed me the frame. It had large rusted out splits, holes, cracks, etc. all along the frame mostly near the bottoms, both sides, but drivers side was worse. I don't have a garage so it is parked outside on gravel driveway. I live in NW CT and they treat the roads with metal eating salt brine or whatever. Took it to a welding shop, they checked it out, said "Oh, we see a lot of these". They cleaned the frame all out, loaded with crap, welded plates and repaired it, did a nice job, painted it too. Expensive though, $1000, so the replacement frames don't seem to last long either. The shop guys said to spray and treat it inside the frame with Fluid Flim, couple times a year.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If you only paid $1000.00 it was a Minor repair.

Last job I quoted was $2500.00 plus any added parts. In the great liquid Brine Belt hardware tends to break along with fuel and brake lines.

in our damp climate being outside is rough .
