I'm finishing a first tune up on my 2002 Tacoma 3.4. The deep recessed plugs are a first for me, and feeling if the wires are clipping on to the plug correctly has been challenging. The back plug on the left bank (the one that is so hard to get to) is my problem now. It does not feel like it's clipping on to the plug. I did a measurement from base of the rubber to the metal clip inside. I get 25mm. Do you know if that is correct? I searched for schematics online but didn't find anything that gave those measurements.

(I will replace the wires once the new ones come in. This is just to get me going for the weekend.)

    Thanks for your help!

What you are feeling is normal especially on an older set of wires. New wires don't feel like they're clipping to the plugs very well either. You will feel a very slight click with your new wires. No idea on the measurement.

Well...sorry! I thought I had reported back here, but I guess I did not.

The new plug wires DID fix my problem. I did not change the coil packs because I'm to the place now I don't replace original Toyota parts "proactively" because the new stuff is such bad quality. So I did not change the coil packs. I'll use them until they stop working.
