I have a 2002 Tacoma (4 cyl, 2wd) with a driver's side window that is not working. Over the past year, it went from going up/down slowly, to working sporadically, and now not working at all.

I am assuming I need a new window motor. Just wondering if this is an easy fix following a trip to the junk yard.

I welcome any/all suggestions or help.

    I appreciate the optimism.

Does it sound like the motor is bad? Any chance it could be something else?

Does it make any noise at all when pushing the switch up or down?

A lot of times the regulator and cable come apart.

Check for window motors on Rockauto.com. I have bought a few from them in the past and there selection and prices are reasonable. Also they aren't to difficult to replace.

No, it doesn't make any noise. It used to go down a few inches, but now nothing at all happens. No sound and no movement.

Thanks. I may head to our local Upull-it junkyard which would also would allow me to see it assembled first.

the "working sporadically" would make me check the switch first.

Take out the master switch assembly and look to see if it's all sooty. Mine was very picky about going back up. All I had to do was clean up the contacts and it works like a charm.

Of course the "going up and down slowly" may suggest otherwise. But it might be worth your 20 mins and $5 to see if it's the contacts on the switch before trying to get to the window motor, etc...

The two long strips of metal on either side of that silver box is your driver's side window contacts

    Before and after

Sorry to hijack and revive an old thread... but My girlfriends 02 driver side window is doing the same. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes it doesn't and we have to wait a few minutes, then go a few inches, then wait a few more minutes to get it the rest of the way. The motor sounds like it's trying and stops... this could mean the motor is going bad, but also seems like it just isn't getting enough power.

She claims this all started after she got new speakers put in the doors at a local shop, who could never fix the problem. I'm going to look and see where they ran the power (please don't tell me those jackasses didn't splice something in the door). I'll check the contacts as you mentioned above. Is that an easy task. Thinking I'll do that before I buy this.

Doubt I'll need a new regulator as well. But I'll check that too
