Running 93 is just gonna bust your wallet. Ethanol free gas would be great to have as the normal but in 1999 when mine rolled off the line gas was alot different than now. I would have a hard time being convinced any smell is coming from the gas an if it were mine I would run 87 all day everyday but that is just my opinion. I dont think anything you are smelling is gas related. Good luck and hope your new to you Yota treats you kind!!

87 is all you need IMO if the original owner ran 93 he was still running ethanol through it so the engine is used to it. Now if all he had ran the entire life of the truck was ethanol free then maybe there could be a problem. I have to buy ethanol free for all my mowers..weedeaters etc an its hard enough to find just for that, running it in a car would almost be impossible lol

Sure would be nice to be able to afford it in my vehicles but wheeeeeeew the gas bill for a year I bet would look astonishing haha. I love my Tacoma but not enough to run ethanol free in it. Ill take my chances with good ole corn fed 87

Originally from VA. I actually came across a family friend that just sold me a Honda Pilot for a deal I couldn't pass up so now have that an my Tacoma. I am having thoughts (and just thoughts) of maybe selling my Tacoma as much as it would break my heart to do but I really dont need 2 vehicles but she has been my baby for so long I dunno if I will ever be able to sell it. Have never lived without a truck lol. Hasnt hit the 200k mile mark yet an its a 99 has been my daily driver since 2000. Maybe I should jus sell the Honda Pilot an upset the family friend that practically gave it away to me

what gen pilot? Think the 1st gens are most reliable. I’d keep both If you have the space. Put one on non op at dmv or something never kno might need one or the other down the road.

Its a 2005 Pilot and they took amazing care of it and the family that sold it to me are just good people and could have gotten at least 4500 easily. He said he just wanted it out of the way because he was tired of moving it to mow ‍♂️ Wish I had that problem.

unless you really need the money or don't have space I would definitely keep both I had a Honda odyssey Van a friend basically gave to me for $500 that lasted me and 1 year and about 6 months the fuel pump went out and a deer had landed right on top of it, it jumped three lanes and landed right on top of the hood and bent everything in ward drove it home about 20 minutes away with no anti freeze and had no problems with it.

Did you get your issue with the gas smell resolved? I am not a mechanic but have read cleaning the EGR valve would resolve the issue an I dont think its overly costly or complicated to do. Mine is doing the same thing and thats what I am leaning towards. Again I am just starting to look into it myself so I could be totally wrong.

No haven't even tackled it I been real busy with school I had a 02 sensor code and my check engine light was on but now its been off and hasn't turned on for 3 months yet the code still showed up , I saw that apparently 02 sensor could cause a weird smell but other's said it wouldn't ima try to get the 02 sensor replaced first.

Yeah I might look into that I had a Corrola like that but I only knew because it ran rough I thought usually when it's the EGR valve you could tell because it usually makes a car run a little rough.

Tell me if you get your's fixed and what you did if you do I'm also not a mechanic by far this is my first Truck and I haven't done much besides change oil and change a radiator hose. I also wanted to do all the fluids on my Tacoma but it appears someone welded the rear diff fill cap on.

Just grid the weld and get a new plug: 90341-A0002
or just use the diff breather hole and carefully measure what you take out.

Re exhaust smell- I'd be checking the exhaust system for leaks, especially at the flanges. I had a tiny exhaust leak that wasn't enough to throw a code, but did make the interior smell like exhaust until the engine was up to temp. I got lucky and was able to change them out, but it wasn't easy.

Yeah I might do that when I get to it, but why would someone weld it on ? you can't really smell it when you are in the truck and appears to becoming directly from the back of the exhaust but now that you mention in between the cat and where it connects to the exhaust it seems water comes out of it directly from a flange gasket and not from the outside, but it really smells like its coming from the tip of the exhaust I will look into that and try it gaskets are cheap anyways.
