I have a question in a couple of these swap threads that never went answered. Hoping you can help out.

I currently have an 04 DC auto with the j-shift. I want to eventually swap to a manual transmission but keep the j-shift.

That said, the j-shift is currently on the left side of the cut out in the tranny hump. In my 98 with a manual, the j-shift is on the right side of the cut out in the tranny hump.

If I manually swap my 04 and keep the j-shift transfer case, does it get clocked or something when mounted to the manual transmission so that the j-shift ends up on the right side of the manual transmission shifter?

That’s a good question. I’m guessing the shifter is a different shape to fit around the transmission shifter (in fact I’m almost certain because the push button t-case is like that between an auto or manual trans). So you would need to get a j-shift shifter from a manual trans setup to make it look like your ‘98. Or just twin stick it (or crawl box with triple sticks :D)

this is an AWESOME THREAD. I just bought a 2003 Double Cab and I have an '00 R150F with a J-shift. I WILL BE DOING THIS SWAP. I re-read this thread and didn't see this get talked about, so I apologize if I missed it, but if I keep the auto-ecu/ecm how do I deal with the check engine light? I believe it was said that 5ish codes get thrown relating to the auto-trans? Is the only way to rectify this by getting a different ecu/ecm? Please let me know!

The shifter is a different shape 100%, you also need to enlarge the hole in the tunnel just like shown in the thread.

DISREGARD, I called Yotamasters and ORS and they both said that I would need to get a 2002-2004 Tacoma 5VZ M/T 4x4 ecu/ecm in order to remove the check engine lights. These get kinda spend on ebay, does anyone know where I can get one for <$500?

The 2002 and 2003 ECMs are different. I only know this because when I did my swap, I bought a 2002 transmission and it’s matching ECM, but the wiring harness on the 2003 has additional plug(s). Let me see if I have a picture some place. I forget what the extra plug controls. I wound up getting a 2003 M/T ECM to avoid any CELs.

I bought a new ECM from Toyota. The fellow I bought all my parts from works for a dealership and he was able to locate one on their parts network. But it looked just like the picture you posted. The 2002 is a little different

4-door auto to manual swap in progress. 2003. Auto wiring harness, Manual ECU. I just got my clutch pedal in today, there are 3 switches, bottom of clutch pedal, top of clutch pedal, and clutch-start-cancel. I don't see the wiring for the clutch start cancel? Also is this to ensure cruise control works?
