    Hi Everyone,

I just bought my second 1st gen Taco. I have yet to dismiss my first one as it has an OEM roof rack installed, and from what I can gather those things are made of gold. So, I would like to transfer the rack from one to the other. Anyone ever tackle this?

The new truck doesn't have a rack. I've heard that the roofs were reinforced for the factory installed ones. This true? How much reinforcement does it have?

Donor truck is a 2002 Tacoma Dbl Cab. New truck is a 2003 Dbl Cab.

    Thanks.

The 2002 has the factory roof rack?. I was under the impression that it was a 1 year only 2003 or 2004.

Have you been thru this thread?
What are your plans with the diner truck? Might be easier to find a set off a 97 4runner and save you alot of trouble of having to weld reinforcement plates in the new truck.
There are a few yrs of the 4runner that will fit.
Also...toyota used some non factory rails during some years from what I see. "Perry" bars.

Might be able to find those.

If the old truck is junk, then I say go for it. But if your reselling it, might just be easier to get the 4runner bars or aftermarket.

I run the Thule with q towers, padded feet and locks. And a Baja basket. The entire setup used was only $500.

Thanks, I have seen that thread.

I'm not too familiar with using a 4Runner rack. What makes it easier?

The donor truck is a salvage title and is is rough cosmetic shape. That's why I want to steal the rack, plus it looks good.
I'm planning on plugging the holes and selling the truck for a steal.

If the OEM rack is too much of a PITA then I'll go for the Thule rack. I figure if I have a good rack why not try to swap 'em.

Here are some pics of the two trucks.
